6SJ7 Gain Factor Comparison
Where does the 6SJ7 pentode tube fall in the gain factor scale as compared to typical triode tubes?
Re: 6SJ7 Gain Factor Comparison
Yes. I'm looking for where it falls on the scale against triode preamps as a comparison. This isn't for anything in design, just wondering...
Re: 6SJ7 Gain Factor Comparison
The 6SJ7 in pentode mode has a way higher amplification factor than the triode tubes we fool with. But the 6SJ7 also has a way higher internal anode impedance which needs to be taken into consideration.

Clearly the gain can be all over the map depending upon how the 6SJ7 (or any tube, for that matter) is set up. Typical 12AX7 with 100k plate load is ~35 dB. 6SJ7 in a 5C1 Champ, grid leak biased with 250k Ra, is probably close to 45 dB.
