Hello there,
Say, how do you go about sizing the L and W of your speaker baffle to allow room for your fabric and make a good final fit?
I found a square yard of some polyester Red Wine color fabric that is noted to be acoustically transparent for the most part.
The baffle is 1/2" Baltic Birch plywood and I have the outer 1/8" edge lift molding to raise the cloth.
It would be great if some of you could share how you successfully went about it.
Thank you,
Best,
Phil D

Usually 1/8" will do it for two thicknesses of fabric. You can cut a scrap wood to length to test the fit first.

I use a set of calipers to measure the cloth thickness x2 add in a tiny bit fudge factor plus whatever piping / edging will be added. I like the grill to be snug for best appearance.

Thanks all for your comments.
I think I have some good guidelines to go by now. I never had a definitive answer to the question of snuggness of the baffle to the inner side walls. I did imagine that a very gentle press fit might be optimal and you Geeze probably solidified that for me. I do have a cheap caliper and will see what it says for a couple of layers of fabric. Since this is my first time, I have no instincts on the fabric thickness just by visually inspecting it.
Alright, thanks again, time to grab the 1/2" baltic birch board and get to measuring.
thank you,
Best
