Trey's Express
Hey everybody, havn't been around here in awhile. Haven't even touched a soldering iron in years, gonna change that soon though. I just saw one of my favorite bands, Phish in Seattle on Saturday night. I don't know if there has been a discussion about it, but for a few years he has had a Trainwreck ...

Self-split - can someone explain this to me ?
Hey gang, I have a potential customer that wants me to build him a harp amp with a "self split" output section topology. The schem he sent me ( attached) is a bit of a mystery to me, the grid of one of the output tubes is connected to ground, can someone explain the theory of this to me ?

Re: rockstah passed
This is Rockstah as in the Mar in the Larmar master volume and frequent contributor to metroamps forum ? It's sad in any case, but I sort of feel like I know him a bit, so I am really bummed now. RIP Mark, I will never hear early EVH tone again and not think of your quest to achieve it as well as yo...

Check out this thread : http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... xe+richter
I thought Doveman got some nice tones out of that amp, and there is enough info there to recreate it.

Re: R.I.P. Jon Lord
Next to the CD player in my shop is a short stack of CDs that I listen to over and over again. One of them is Deep Purple's self titled 3rd album that has lots of good Jon Lord stuff on it. Here's a track from it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdjkI0GO9es I suppose it's because I like a lot of the...

Re: Airline 62-9015-A
In cases like this where you are trying to fill in the gaps and you can't locate the exact schematic it is often helpful to look at other schematics of similar amps by the same maker from the same period to see how they typically handled different sections of the circuit to try and match them up wit...

If you figure out the intermittent problem you could sell it for around $500. You could get 2 or 3 decent donor amps for that much.

Re: B-18 PI Question
I guess my eyes aren't so hot anymore, sorry about that. I scrutinized your pic and checked off every connection on the Joe Piazza schematic and it all looks good to me, although I couldn't make out some of the tone stack connections because of the angle, but again nice job. The only difference I no...

Re: B-18 PI Question
Jon, nice looking build - I like the layout too, It's Ampegish in a way, did you design it ? Anyway, I think I found the problem - There is a white wire that is meant to connect the screens of the output tubes, but on the tube on the left it is connected to the control grid ( pin 5) instead of pin 4...

I agree with Bob, should be a clean machine. Have you tried subbing another 7199 ? Is it the stock circuit with both channels ? Maybe if you posted a pic one of us could spot something you missed.

There's a lot of stuff on ebay for ridiculous prices that won't close, but can someone explain this kind of thing :

Re: Annoying overwhelming brightness. Power amp problem?
SInce you are using an LTPI you could try strapping a "fizz" cap across the PI plates like in a plexi to tame the highs, or add an AC30 / Rocket style cut control.

Re: I wish him success
I must say, I don't understand the idea that because you like one kind of music that you have to put down another. If Jimi were here today I do not think that he would approve of the use of his image in this manner, he was about love. You see this kind of anti Justin Bieber comment in a lot of video...

Re: 7868 tube
Gary, another thing you could do to get away from using an obscure tube like that is to replace the sockets with octals and go with another tube that is close. 6L6GC ratings are close to 7868, although If the amp is fixed bias you would have to make adjustments of course. Also, 7591A is basically a ...
