Re: Union Jack 1x12
This is what happens when an incorrigible experimenter, an artist and fancy wood collide - with time on his hands. The cart was #3 for shuttling gear into shows in Texas as most of the parking lots are rough and cracked. It was made from scrap wood bits with a marine grade ply core from gun barrel c...

Union Jack 1x12
A couple of years ago in honor of Marshall's 60th anniversary I built a Union Jack head cab for a 1987. https://i.imgur.com/VtNTi2P.jpg I was told multiple times to build a matching speaker cab and decided to build it this year for the Dallas Guitar festival with the 'Guys Building Guitars Dallas' g...

Re: Help identifying cabinet
Based on the plastic corner protectors I'd say the cab is Crate as well - doesn't matter if it is matching just that it works. You might want to measure the speakers - I'm thinking its a 4x12 based on the head width and the speaker spacing, if so they came with celestion 70 / 80 speakers.

Re: Electro-Voice Speakers--NEW?
I wasn't an EVM12L fan until I plugged into a Rivera 2x12 'Theile' cab. I've built several TL-806 cabs [EV's design for the EVM12L] and for the size they are a great cab. I've heard over the years that they keep up with a 4x12 - not in my experience. I copied one of Zilla Cabs designs after a discus...

Re: Combo Amp Chassis Fixings
When I've used threaded style inserts with wood I epoxy them in place to strengthen [somewhat] the surrounding wood and to prevent unwanted rotation.

Just noticed that I didn't put in any complete pics of the 1987 cab.

Re: Union Jack cab build
I don't know how you can keep a design like this in the mind's eye while building it. I'm certain, if I were to try this, I'd be making a lot of firewood. What you did was truly impressive. There's the plan, the first steps, the 'Dammit, that didn't work' new plan then a few more steps, cussing & h...

Re: Union Jack cab build
Had to build a jig to cut the 30.96° angles - I did 31°, you'll need to forgive me. IDK, you've allowed us to expect more of you. Still, too hard to give this a thumbs down. Really, it's very inventive. I think you've got something elegant there. Damn, and I thought holding .04° tolerance was doing...

Union Jack cab build
I had an itch to do something weird but classy. Marshall's 60th gave me an idea to build a Union Jack cab. After studying the details on the jack - ratios between the stripes and alignments I decided to use maple for the 'white' stripes, red heart for - you guessed it - the red stripes and dye maple...

Re: Baffle attachment for dumble-style combo (T-nuts?)
Wood screws from the back - I use sheet rock screws with a countersunk hole.
I do closed back which is why there are so many screws. For a combo you could use half as many unless you're doing a floating baffle then only four.

Re: Spruce 1x10 cabinet
I need to take a better look into this. If i understand it correctly, you just let the baffle be in a rabbit hole type of channel inside the cabinet, no screws or glue whatsoever?
A floating baffle has two screws on either side of the baffle [or only top and bottom] holding it to t...

Re: 2x12 Speaker cabinet for JM sig and plexi
As in, which cab company, design and opening. Honestly I love the looks of port city’s os 2x12 wave cabinet. good sounding box need a lot of experiments. I've contacted Jim Lill about his testing apparatus as I'm 80 miles east of him. I enjoy experimenting and have built 25+ cabs in the pursuit of ...

Re: 2x12 Speaker cabinet for JM sig and plexi
I prefer a closed back but I'm with @xtian on this - convertible to see what you like in the space you're in. Zilla makes OS cabs - I've copied their Fatbaby 1x12 and a low volumes with an EVM 12L it out low ends a 1960B with GB's.

Re: Possible repair
Have you tested them separately to determine which one [or both] is causing the issue? Or plugged the amp into another speaker[s] to hear what the amp is doing? I've not repaired or reconed speakers but I have had an issue with excessive 'cone cry' and received advice that ranged from 'the speaker i...
