Good stuff, guys.
Maybe messing around with an existing set of four 6L6's isn't the best option.
I do have 40w-60w amps, but was thinking about the 100w'ers.
Because all of my amps are "vintage", I'll simply use
my Weber Mass 200 to attenuate the 100w amps.
Seems good to me.
I did hear that the 6V6 tubes make a difference or are different,
but probably not matched in the same set with 6L6 tubes.
Thanks for responding. Much appreciated. Toppscore

Isn't the Boogie Simul-Class sort of a take on this theme? 50w pair + 15w pair?

Now, CPollack, this is very interesting.
I went to the Mesa/Boogie site.
The Simul-Class amp is a rack-mount head.
Why not in an Amp Head Cabinet?

My Brown Note D'lite 44 (two power tubes) kit came with a dual primary output transformer.
One set was 8K for 6V6 and the other 4K for 6L6.
I had a toggle switch installed to select the primary being used.
Of course you should re-bias when switching tubes as well.
Not sure where you would find something like that at retail but I believe the BN OT was wound by Heyboer.

Thanks, Structo.
I've not read a better response than using a good attenuator
on my 100w amps. Just been wondering what's out there in
in the Hi/Low switchable amp world.
Both Trainwreck & Dumble clones ship in 100w & 50w models.
Will check them out, especially the Fuchs.
No need to recreate the wheel.
My Weber Mass 200 will stay around

The Simul-Class amp that you mention is not the only product that Boogie makes with Simul-Class circuitry. They have built that output section into quite a few amps including cabinet based heads and combos. Look at the Mark IIs and IIIs. I know they have SC for sure. I own a Mark III.Now, CPollack, this is very interesting.

I agree that attenuators are the easiest way. If you are prepared to mod an amp, power scaling is always an option. http://www.londonpower.com/pscaling.htmToppscore wrote: I've not read a better response than using a good attenuator

Thanks, Lynxtrap.
I have a Weber Mass 200 attenuator. Familiar with it?
But, the power scaling seems great, but
maybe not good modifying vintage amps.
Thanks again. Toppscore
