I want to build a super clean 40-50 watt fender

Post by Curranproducer »

as it says in the header, I need a nice clean clean clean tube amp at about 40-50 watts for my studio. I finished a very ac30 top boost a few weeks ago but it is not clean enough. I will take your suggestions. I only need one input and no reverb or tremolo stuff, just a straight clean fender tone 8)

Super Reverb - omit the sections you don't need.

Here's a kit form:

Tweed Super gets my vote.

Mojotone sells a kit and its a LOUD and clean 40W

Its similar to the tweed bassman but has a few less bells and whistles, if thats even possible. Cathode follower in the preamp - really cool tone!

Build a straight AB763 Dual Showman but use one pair of 6L6s, nix the trem circuit, and use an 8 Ohm speaker load. One EVM 12L or 15L should do it. Not clean enough? Sub in a 12AY7 in V1. Maybe try to find a set of NOS 7027s (mind the pin out) or 7581s, or even use 807s if you can tolerate an exposed plate cap.

Using the big 80W Dual Showman (or TR) iron (as oposed to 40-50W Bassman, Bandmaster, Pro, or SR iron) will help it stay big 'n clean.

Build this, worked for Dumble.

If you don't want 100w use two 6L6GC's and 50w Bassman iron.

What about a hifi type amp like dynaco Mk III, or ST70 strapped to mono?

That's an interesting layout, Mark. I'd be interested in giving that a go in the future. Are there any other threads regarding the specimen that was examined?

Mark, could be on that show "Hoarders". Except you hoard good stuff.

+1

Mark, have you built this one? I think I'm gonna turn my Princeton project into this!

This thing sounds pretty killer, kind of a single channel tweed twin with a switch for single or parallel first triode. I would have used 2 jacks but didn't have room on an express chassis.

I used hammond 350-0-350 power trands and a hammond P-T1750M generic fender output. I did add the 4.7m feedback in the preamp like on the fender tweed twin and super.
