My son wanted his own guitar about a year ago and I got him one. He wanted a EVH guitar, he’s not a big fan of EVH, he liked the colour of the guitar, the fact it only has a bridge pickup and it can go into dropped D with the flick of a switch.
He was a fan of Black Sabbath and I got him a Catanlynbread Sabbra Cadabra pedal. It actually sounded pretty good but it’s noisy. I thought the guitar was noisier that it should be.
Upon cracking the guitar open, I find the shielding job is pathetic. The paint is very thin, it’s not on the sides of the cavity where the earth wire and screw are. The lug which is screwed into the body is just flapping in the breeze.
The pickup wasn’t centred very well, (I did consider putting a F spaced Super Distortion pickup in the guitar), the setup was bad, etc. This is the second guitar from the initial purchase, the first guitar which I took back had a threaded thumb wheel screw in the Floyd Rose bridge. The outlet apologised saying their tech shouldn’t have missed it.
Nothing from Fender though.

Re: Shielding in Mexican EVH guitar.
Twenty years back my lad bought his first guitar, a Squire Strat. It had some shielding (conductive paint), but it still exhibited a lot of hum. I shielded the cavities and pick guard with copper foil from Stew Mac, and rewired it to eliminate ground loops. It was much improved after that.
Re: Shielding in Mexican EVH guitar.
I bought this guitar (EVH Striped) last year, and have since put hundreds of hours in, practicing and playing more than a dozen gigs with my EVH tribute band, VanHagar. I have been very pleased. I changed the stock pickup to a Seymour Duncan, then back again to the original.
The shielding has been no issue. The humbucker doesn't care, even with the high gain needed for Runnin' with the Devil or Eruption.

Just plug it in, man.
Re: Shielding in Mexican EVH guitar.
Sounds very good though I think you could have used more gain. A mate of mine knows a player who played through Eddie’s rig, and he remarked at the amount of gain Eddie used.xtian wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 1:47 am I bought this guitar (EVH Striped) last year, and have since put hundreds of hours in, practicing and playing more than a dozen gigs with my EVH tribute band, VanHagar. Hmm yea --
That sparkly tiara was a "best in show" stylin' move.
Best ..
In deed, the yoob crew assumed the depth of their surveillance was inadequate and so broke a few things when tagging each copy with a unique crypto key. They now want to track who to whom. Only grab everything before that embedded question mark will restore an older style YT URL. And perhaps invoke the FullYouTube macro Phil so helpful added some while back::xtian wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 1:47 am Here's live footage from our NYE show: https://youtu.be/yTmXcRBz3IA?si=roJphsQMY0rIDnXO

Re: Shielding in Mexican EVH guitar.
Only added a kill switch. After I received my Kiesel Delos with Floyd Rose, I realized the FR that came with the EVH is lower quality--the tuning machines are not as nice and smooth as Kiesel's German FR.

I’m ignorant of Floyd Rose bridges, in what way are they lower quality on the EVH guitar?

Primarily, the metal and machining of the tuners. Much smoother and more precise on the better units.
