Humble pie question..

Post by Icetech »

I doubt there are alot of humble pie fans here.. but i know it doesn't hurt to ask...

Lately i been on a humble pie kick.. and i have been just blown away by the guitarists tone.. which to my untrained and mostly deaf ears almost sounds TWish... does anyone know what they used? seems with a flick of the guitar volume they can go from nice smooth to insanely driven power.. and sound great.

Although I've seen video with them using Orange amps, I think the Elgen amps are seen most often. This was a weird, almost unknown brand that some folks rave about.

hey... Sgt OD/TubeTramp has an Elgen
Ask him about it...
Veeery unusual circuit...
I have schematics of both Lead100 and Bass100, if interested

I think they went all Marshall from Rock On onwards
Don't overthink it. Just drink it.

The 2 times I saw Humble Pie, they were all Marshalls. Marroit played his Dwight (a rebranded Epiphone Coronet), and Frampton played his Black 3 pickup Custom. The second time I saw them, Frampton was gone but Clem Clemson also used a Marshall (don't remember his axe - he was un-spectacular).

Marriot's tone was wonderful alright. So much so, I had to get myself a Coronet. Love them (Humble Pie and Coronets).

Steve also used Vox and HiWatt amps on occasion. Seemed like he did not worry to much about what the amp was, but he could play. One thing so nice was his totally different style to Framptons.

Wish they could have finished a new CD when Peter and Steve were hitting it off again!! Another sad ending to a talented performer!!!

IIRC, the Humble Pie videos show Orange amps since they were filmed at Beat Club or something like that - where they featured Orange amps exclusively - the house amp.

I think Orange amps were mostly popular with the funk / disco crowd  of the mid-late 70's.
