When I was a teenager this band enabled me to rebel against my parents.

haha Heaven and Hell. Not quite as vintage, but you know it's old enough now.

Go Dio!

I love this song as a rebellious teenager:

Sweet Leaf

When I first met you, didn't realize
I can't forget you, for your surprise
you introduced me, to my mind
And left me wanting, you and your kind

I love you, Oh you know it

My life was empty, forever on a down
Until you took me, showed me around
My life is free now, my life is clear
I love you sweet leaf, though you can't hear

Come on now, try it out

Straight people don't know, what you're about
They put you down and shut you out
you gave to me a new belief
and soon the world will love you sweet leaf

Go Dio!
I've got all the first at least half dozen Black Sabbath records. but ...
My 2 favourite Sabbath LPs were Heaven and Hell and Technical Ecstasy.

I'm also a big Dio fan and saw him perform in at least 4 different bands.

Always thought Dio sounded like he listened to too much Ethel Merman...

But, you know, hey I was a fan back then.

I too am a huge Sabbath fan but I got to say that I am extremely unhappy with the present state of the band. Being an old drummer, Bill Ward was a big influence on my youth when I started learning my instrument of choice. I remember being mesmorized seeing them play in 1970. Just totally blown away. When they announced this year that a new album was in the works along with a tour I got very excited. Then the crap started with Bill not being able to sign the contract that was presented him. WTF, he is a founding member not some friggin hired hand. They (ozzy and friends) decided to go with his young drummer for their show in Birmingham and in Chicago. Sorry folks but that ain't Black Sabbath. Now it appears that Bill won't even be on the new album. I personally won't be spending my hard earned money on the album unless its the full real lineup and not 3/4 of the real deal. It's sad when after 40+ years that they ALL cant get together just one more time.

Rant off

I saw Sabbath at Oz fest in the early 2000s. It was amazing bringing back the memories of those tunes. Sweet leaf? Iommi was phenomenal.

I have also liked Sabbath. Mainly the Dio years. For some reason I have always found ozzy's voice disturbing.
In my books Sabbath died with Dio...

So there is new Sabbath coming out? Man I did not know that. I don't even know if I could entertain that idea...

Paranoid was one of my favorite albums of all time when I was in my teens...and it came out 9 years before i was born!!

Iommi is the man...one of the best in my book. Seeing him live was awesome. Ozzy has always been a wreck...I went to a bunch of those Ozzfests back 10 years ago and they only one I really enjoyed was when Sabbath was on tour. I think it was 2002 or 2003...killer killer show. Did anyone see that tour? Rob Zombie may have been on it (ha, he's probably at all of them).

I can't do the rest of the heavy bands...but Sabbath always hit the spot.

I remember the first time that I heard Iron Man back in the 70's, holy shit that was heavy - holy shit that was THE ELECTRIC GUITAR tone. IMO early Sabbath was Rock and Roll.

With Iommi's illness and their age, it truly is too bad that they did not get back together with Bill Ward - as there may not be too many future opportunities to do so.
