Anyone seen the movie "It Might Get Loud?"
Just saw some clips on youtube. Jimmy Page, Jack White, and The Edge sitting down and talking riffs.

Re: Anyone seen the movie "It Might Get Loud?"
This was aired in it's entirety on VH-1 last week while I was out in New Mexico. It was great to see both of the youngerns jaws drop when the old
Chinese dude started rocking Whole Lotta Love. He can still cut heads with
his axe hanging beyond low! The premise made no sense to me without seeing
what the producer must have sensed all along. I mean the Edge eschews
that style verbatim from what I've seen when U-2 performed in their early
days. Obviously Jack White is immersed in the image of the old blues men.
But he recognized Jimmy's facility with the genre and made a great foil to
the Edge. Though when the camera pulls back to the ceiling at the closing to
reveal the rehearsal space chock full of grips and various attendants to the
film crew I couldn't help thinking those bastards were getting the best of
what these musicians were puttin' down that evening. That's despite the
great stuff that made it to film!
You owe it to yourself to rent the film and watch it on a big screen with a
full audio compliment. We are treated to a trip to Headly Grange were the
tracks for Led Zeppelin IV were cut. Even the hall where Bonzo got his
definitive drum sound he played for When the Levee Breaks. Page
points out the bannisters where overhead mics hung from to pick up the room's ambiance that contributes the monumental awesomeness those drums evoke to this day.
I believe Evan Johns engineered that sesh on the Rolling Stone's mobile unit. It must have been quite a time in those days!
I read he sent the band to the local pub because it wasn't happening on
tape and when the band returned he'd set up Bonzo's new Ludwig kit at
the bottom of the stairs and the lads "got it".
Seeing Mr. Page play "air guitar" in his music room to Link Wray is to be
cherished if you know what I mean. I learned alot about what went in
to making the other two guitarists as well. So this film really worked on many levels regardless which generation you claim.
I gave it two snaps and a "windmill".

This is a real fun movie to watch. I have to agree, that Mr. Page's air guitar to Link Wray was great. The joy and the way his face lit up was priceless.
Another enjoyable section was the schooling that the lads received during "Kashmir".
A great outtake from the film that can be found on youtube was Jimmy playing the theremin.

It wasn't everything I wanted it to be, but there are a lot of gems in there.

Watched it a while ago and liked it very much. I wish they had replaced White with Gilmour though.

I saw it when it was first released at the theater. I live in LA and it was shown in a theater with about 40 seats (the majestic). People who don't live in LA or NYC probably didn't get a chance to see it in release. I have it on DVD but am glad i got to see it on a large screen.

It ran briefly in a small neighborhood theater here in Cincinnati.

It's fun to watch for the Jimmy moments alone. Some very intimate and fun moments that feel like it's just you and him in the room chatting. I appreciated that.
I like Jack White and his music but he's definitely working hard at that image, too hard in the movie IMO. He comes off as pretentious when he's trying to act like a quirky old blues musician.

Different to what I imagined as well. I've got it on DVD. But still some thoroughly enjoyable moments.

I was thinking the same thing when I first saw the flick, then I read an interview with him in TapeOp a few months back. The guy has a pretty firm foundation in the older analog recording technology. He may be trying a bit too hard on his image, but I am of the opinion that he is truly quirky. I think I saw a snippet on the History channel recenty, where the American Picker guys sold him a stuffed Elephant's head.Cliff Schecht wrote:I like Jack White and his music but he's definitely working hard at that image, too hard in the movie IMO.
