Favourite Vocalist?

Post by JamesHealey »

Who's yours?

Mine would have to be Freddie Mercury he was astounding!

http://open.spotify.com/track/2pspdhwHESrE97gTrXiFZW - For those that have spotify.. I think Freddies voice on this is just unreal.

Also a big fan of Hetfields work on the Load and Reload albums.

Favourite Vocalist

How about Joe Cocker.
Alison Moyet's worth a mention.

Although I hated pop rock when I started playing guitar, as I've aged I've come to like Steve Perry of Journey. The timbre and range of his voice is very pleasing. Much different from Iggy Pop or Johnny Rotten... :?

The late great Ronnie James Dio, nuff said.

Other good vocalists Paul Stanley (really) and Jeff Scott Soto with Yngwie.

Always depends, doesn't it? Some vocals that have magic in the context of the song:
Billy "Blue" Bland - Stormy Monday
Al Jarreau - Mornin'
Sarah McLachlan - In The Arms Of An Angel
Keb' Mo' - Your Love
Leon Russell - A Song for You

Nah, I give up. I guess I like just about everybody and don't have any real "favorites" with sticking power.

Phil Mogg (UFO) had one of the most listenable voices in hard rock.

A second vote for Joe Cocker. I wish I had his voice and Johnny Winter's fingers.

I need more practice, not more gear.

Mike Patton - Faith No More
Raine Maida - Our Lady Peace
Chris Cornell - Sound Garden / Temple of the Dog / Audio Slave
Greg Dulli - The Afghan Whigs
Kelli Dayton - Sneaker Pimps
Kay Hanley - Letters to Cleo
Beth Gibbons - Portishead
Hayley Williams - Paramore
Paul Dempsey - Something for Kate
David Coverdale - Whitesnake
Linda Eder -
Hailey Westenra -
Maynard James Keenan - Tool, A Perfect Circle
Mike Doughty - Soul Coughing

I'm sure I missed a lot but these are ones that stick out over the last 25 years.

I guess I could put Micheal Jackson, Corey Heart, Brian Adams, Elton John, but they might fall under the better song writers post.

Just to clear the palate from these other fellows, and although I'll take a ribbing, I'm going to give Tom Waits a vote. I saw him perform on an archival episode of "Austin City Limits" and was floored when he sang "On the Nickel". He's certainly unusual.
