What's hopping in Houston?

I'll be visiting Houston in August and am looking for suggesions of clubs /bands.

I'm into blues/roots, rockin' country and pretty much anything that swings, grooves & twangs.

Would appreciate pointers in that direction as well as music shops / electronic retailers of interest.

Are there any Houstonians on the board? or should I head to Dallas (Alice), is it metropolis or nectropolis, do I need holes in my shoes and a walking case of the blues, to get the news about Houston?

if you're in Houston, the best place to go to check out great music is Austin.

did I just say that? hmm.

I'm sure there's something good happening in Houston but I just don't know about it.
