Lots of great bands mentioned.

Hey let's not forget Procol Harum. First five albums especially, with Robin Trower ripping up the fretboard (YAY!). Through all the changes, still good to this day. Procol still tours though rarely, and Robin just finished a US tour with his own band.

Recently Gary Brooker (piano, vocal, songwriter) was heard to comment "progressive, I'm not so sure. What we have is gravitas." So right he is.

How about Mahavishnu Orchestra? I loved to watch those guys tear it up live.

Leo

I just saw Robin Trower at a tiny place just an awesome show. That guy can still play.

I think Mahavishnu was more a Jazz-Rock band where Prog-Rock had a classical and rock mixture. Procol definitely with more emphasis on the Rock side for them. I also saw them twice once with Robin, once without.
Brookers voice just kills it!

Not familiar with them.
But how about from Italy P. F. M.??? Anyone....
Or Refugee?? Patrick Moraz came out of that band.
speaking of Italian bands....

check out these, their albums are all over YT,worth listening at least once:
Area
Banco del mutuo soccorso
Balletto di bronzo
Museo Rosenbach
New Trolls
Osanna
Goblin
Arti e mestieri
Le orme
Perigeo

too bad progressive music has success today only in Japan.

I have a vague recollection of P. F. M. - I have a feeling I saw them on tv late one night as a teenager - either Don Kirschner's Rock Concert or Midnight Express :-)

Nektar!
Rare Bird
Gentle Giant

Loved Focus despite Hocus Pocus. Jan Akkerman is still a monster player.

Cr
Yes Nektar!
Akkerman is one of my all time favorites. He plays such nice melodies that just fit the music that they make. And you remember them too.
When I saw him he used a LP Custom Black Beauty thru 2 Fender solid state amps and 4 leslies the wooden cabinet kind that you would have in your living room.

Absolutely man.
I'm not a big fusion fan, but he just has something that kind of transcends that whole genre.
And really, for that matter, Hackett does too, sorry for the derail.
(I'm jealous, never seen Akkerman live. Would really love to though!)

Cool! Lots of new music to check out!...from folks whose ears I trust!

Hackett live would be one off my live show bucket list, no doubt. Must've been great!
