Metal Logo / Name Plate for Amp

Post by JammyDodger »

Hey All,

I'm nearly complete the build of a small head amp. I'm thinking that I'd like to get a metal logo for a nameplate. I'm not selling this so I'm looking for something funny / cool to stick on there. I thought maybe 'Maytag' or 'John Deere'.

Any suggestions?

Any ideas where I could look?

Cheers, the Jammy Dodger

MACK, Caterpillar, Briggs & Stratton, Zippo, Hoover... I think you've already thought of the best ones, though.

Flea markets , junk yards and antique shops.
You could get some old chrome from a Sixties car. Galaxie 500, Fairlane, Chevelle, Malibu, Bel aire, Marquis...etc.

I bought a pair of shoes from a drug dealer the other day. I dunno what he laced them with but I’ve been tripping all day,

I've always been fond of using "name" brands like"Albert Einstein" and "Francis Gary Powers"; or how about special "signature" models such as "The Joe DiMaggio" or "The Dick Cheney Special". Something to set your gear apart from the rest.

Also, if you take a sheet metal "nibbler" (you should probably have one anyway) and cut out the central designs from weird old hubcaps, you can put them on your grille-cloths and head valances like badges. :!:

If you don't find anything interesting to use, and decide to have something made, BNP Lasers can do metal (and plastic) name plates for you. I have gotten control panels and nameplates made by them, and they are great to work with.

How about

"HUMMER"

On second thought, maybe not so good for a tube amp.......

I have one that sez: "Eros"
picked it up at a flea market, just thought it was funny, and that I'd use it someday...never did.

Do a search on ebay under "nameplate" and you'll hit a bunch. Mostly cars, but others too.

Hey All,

Those suggestions are hysterical! perfect. I'm looking on ebay and finding some neat things as well.

I like the signature model series as well...

Lawn Boy. The logo from my old lawn mower came off. I found it was actually rubber with silver paint and a black border.

I've got a nice enameled plate from a door closer that boldly reads, "TACO". But the more likely candidate is my two color, "Bilco" industries marque. I've also seen some real winners on the sides of old vaccum cleaners.

A few years ago, my youngest son had a Mitsubishi that he was trying to turn into a "tuner" car. We took the logo off and scrambled the letters to spell "Sushi" and put it in his center brake light.
