ok peavey

Turning over repairs today... I opened up another peavey combo expecting
a bad thermal or a input jack.
SS that never dies, oh boy.... so I got the thing out of the box and its not SS
Its tube, the combo looks just like any other peavey combo, a bravo 112.
And ya know... the clean channel was nice 12ax7 and EL84.
The dirt was the same set up as the SS, a little better with the tubes.
Real simple layout, one could up the tranny, good platform for a wreck...
keep the peavey logo and looks just to mess with people's heads.

Anybody got a schematic? Non at schematic heaven, free info soc., maybe?
This one looks to need tubes, the getters looking used up, not a bad amp.

Peavey is pretty good about giving schematics. Peavey are hit or miss on the layout it seems. The 5150 isn't bad except for the rivets on the power tube sockets keeping you from getting at the screen resistors . The Windsor is easy to work on but the layout is FUBAR, probably because they were too cheap to pay for a double-sided board.

I've been in windsor .... one of the better tube bass rig I've heard was peavey vta series.
peavey is pretty good with da schem... still looking around the net...

Looks a bit like one of those classic 30, dirt isn't that great with the clippers
but the tone controls on the dirt process are interesting.

I had one of those, and the lead channel is truly on par with the best amps for THAT TYPE of tone. That type being a very hard rock/metal tone with a insane amount of harmonics. There is a cult of fanatics who praise that amp. by the way, as good as it sounds, in stock form theres a serious tonal issue with it....the baffleboard and cab are all particle board. It truly ruins the tone and it becomes far better when played thru a good cab. I tossed the baffle and made a plywood one which improves it a lot.

Anyways, it's really a sort of one trick pony and doesn't have any of those glorious in between SRV tones, so i sold it. But quite a unique and amazing amp. i had a peavey triumph years b4 that too, which is basically a bigger version of it with a third channel and 6L6X2 with a huge EV like speaker.

yep that's where I found it...

Nothing like a good cheap cab to bring out the best tone possible...

the dirt is a silicone clipper, might make a good pedal, I've seen that in
several marshal products, SS and valve, bubble gum tone, these days.

I do like that tone configuration in the lead channel, I'd swear I've seen that
in a garnet, maybe turned around. Another thing in a few tube peavey is
a presence and resonance circuit on the FB loop, seemed usable.
Every now and again, you find a different twist to try out.
