2A3 direct heated triode

Hi guys!

Have you ever built a 2A3 based amp? If so...what are yout thoughts about the results and in general about this type of amps.

It's hard to get these guys thinking about anything other than the standard layouts. Especially here in Dumble territory. I suspect though that a 2A3 would be somewhat too smooth around the edges. As a rule triodes just don't cut it in guitar amps. For the same power out and a softer kind of sound some have used an EL34 single ended with a triode switch. It will get you about 9 watts in pentode and 3 or4 in triode. Might be a way to start to see if you like the sound of triodes. Check out some of the schemes at the AX84 site.

Or, built an ODS Rev A and run the pre output into a 2A3 mono block and see what it sounds like.
