Filter caps are 2 x 100uf/100uf

Try running it without the reverb tube and see if it still does it.
A few people have had issues but that will help narrow it down.

Thanks Tom for the reminder about this amp. I got the amp back and took some pics.
Hope this helps.

Thanks,

I have the reverb back as well. So will double check.

Thanks,

Amazing - thanks!

I think I figured out the output buffer from the pic - it looks like the 1m and 1.5k resistors are tied to a 100k, that then goes to ground.

Any reverb circuit voltages you could get would be great!

Hi Aaron, with a guitar plugged in and the volume knob all the way down, do you get any guitar sound coming through? Most or all of us have run into this with our builds.

Also, what is the measurement on the PI pot?

Thanks

Huh? Well that is interesting... Seems the power supply has evolved.

To recap:

"Aaron's" amp: 100uf -> 1K -100uf -> 10K -> 100uf

Alex's Amp: 32uf -> 1K -> 50uf -> 11K -> 32uf (using 2x32uf can)
Refer to this page (no reverb):
https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... &start=287

"Our attempt": 22uf -> 1K -> 47uf -> 4.7K -> 22uf -> 4.7K -> 22uf
Based on Chris Benson's input and Aaron's photos:
https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... &start=137

5 node version: 22uf -> 1K -> 47uf -> 4.7K -> 22uf -> 2.2K -> 22uf -> 2.2K -> 22uf
Based on "our attempt," and the photo and discussion here:
https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... &start=372

It's funny to look back at all the early head scratching over the power supply. Looks like just about anything will work :shock:

Dizzy Bird cap?

Post by cgharrison »

What’s the big filter cap in electrical tape / shrink tubing coming from the junction with the 100k load resistors?

That’s just heatshrink with wires inside, probably just to keep them together.

Thanks,

It’s not another stage of filtering for the reverb section?

I think you guys may be talking about different parts. Did you see this post? I believe there's a partially built reverb in the bottom picture. Looks like a cap to me. Can't see the value though.

May be helpful?

Thanks - I missed that pic somehow. Looks like a large value - maybe another 100uf?

Hi Guys

I had some iron left from an old tweed build and a virgin chassis so over the weekend i gave it a shot at this amp.
Spent 1hr browsing to this thread and finally chose the eyelet approach.

It turned out quite satisfactory except for the reverb. First time i tried this concept (12dW7, cathode follower) so i don't really know what to expect.
It's just that with a medium spring (8EB2C1B) i only get a mild reverb mixed in. Very short decay.

How did you guys tweak this reverb ? Or did it turn out well with the default values ?

Would love to hear experiences.

The default values in the schematics work great:

Could you have reversed the sides of the 12DW7? The low gain side should be wired as the cathode follower and high gain side as the reverb recovery. That could do it. The reverb sounds better with the additional PS node, but it sounds great even without.
