Fender Super-Sonic 22 (head) Export Transformer

Post by tcdiesel52 »

Good Morning guy/gals....
Need help/confirmation
I have export transformer P/N 78335000 230V
I am trying to convert it to 120V, but when i switched the wires into to 100v configuration to plate voltage is 220v. So which I assume there isnt a 120v tap on this transformer...Is that correct ?
If so are there any recommendations and a transformer replacement ?
Any help is very much appreciated ! Thanks !

On the diagram you posted the one for 100V is a different p/n, 78333000.

yes thats correct so are you saying that the 230v transformer that I originally asked about doesnt have a 120v tap ? that is my question.

It appears, from the drawings, that there isn't a 120v option. You might be able to find a 120-240 transformer to step up the 120. I would imagine that would be cheaper/easier than getting a whole new PT.

There is no 120V option for either of the export transformers. According to the schematic the domestic transformer P/N 0078334000 is what you need.

You could consider using a step-up transformer such as Hammond 176C, 120 to 230. Available from Hawk Electronics for $103.50.

The customer wants it converted, he doesnt want to carry around the step up transformer he already has. Im really hoping I can get that transformer from Fender thats listed on the schematic. Thanks for the suggestions.

A transformer from a Blues deluxe might work, and these can be had from Tubes and More.

It will have a higher B+ so another power supply node for voltage drop and as a filter would need to be put it to keep the 6V6s happy, and physically its bigger.

So the run around eventually led me to calling an authorized fender repair center, and they were able to order the right transformer for me. That wasnt a bad idea though I had thought about doing something like that, but I dont have a ton of experience yet to figure that out yet, and the customer wanted something "factory".
