Budda twinmaster?

Post by Dingleberry »

Anyone have had peek into one?
Not much info available on those little beauties.
My friend had one in the late nineties but he has already sold it.
Nver had a chance to look under the hood and see what made it tick. And it really ticked well. If someone has any clue what might be going on in there I really appreciate it. Got a transformer set already for that kind of amp.
What I know is the basic info found in the net:

5U4G rect, no choke.
2xEL84 p-p (cathode or fixed bias?)
12AX7 PI. (LTPI?)
12AX7 preamp. (Vol, treble, bass and normal and high gain inputs)

No info on the circuitry.
Pics, schem all welcome.

Try emailing Jeff Bober at Budda. He couldn't be that hard to find. He's a nice guy, too. Met him once. Try this: support@budda.com

Look for his repair business (don't know if he still does repairs) Precision Audio Tailoring in Maryland. Ok, I found it, might actually need to call him on the phone :D

He may have moved...not sure what's current.

Jeff is no longer with Budda. His new company is East Amplification.

I tried posting before, but I messed up the post. I'm a big fan of the Twinmaster. I'll tell you what I thint that I know:

EL 84's are cathode biased.

The first preamp tube uses one triode in the "normal" input, and adds the extra triode when using the "hi gain" input (sort -of like a JCM800 1st and 2nd gain stage when in "hi-gain"

The phase inverter is a paraphase type of thing. Also the B+ is a little bit high for the EL84's.

here's a little layout i drew out from an twinmaster i worked on about 10yrs ago now. should be enough details there to build from. the pdf file comes up big for some reason, so you'll have to minimize a bit to see it. and yeah it's an old paraphase style p.i. the rare twinmaster 30 is the same pre as this with one cap change. rh

Hi Folks.
Interesting. The tone controls seem to be a slight variation on the ones in some of the tweed Fenders.
I like Paraphase inverters too.
Not heard one of these amps I'd imagine it would make a really nice Bluesy amp!

Cheers

Thanks for layout :)
Are you sure that cap from treble pot to ground is 100n and bass cap 3900pF?
100n is so big in this position - maybe 3900pF from treble to ground
and 100n as bass cap?

regards.

Hiya all, Are there any accurate Twinmaster schematics out there? It's a wonderful 1995 tweed 1x12 2-EL84 combo & I'd like to have one, just as I have for all my amps. The only thing I've seen was that handwritten preamp section that was posted her many years ago. The plan is to install some kind of power scaling circuit to keep the volume down a bit, but not at the expense of Tone.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, & thank you all in advance.

Hello, I'm going to build a Budda twinmaster type amp, with 2xel84. I will put fixed bias and adjust some components.
Anybody interested in this project?

Hello, I went back.
The budda twinmaster CLONE sound a bit small and congested as many other 2xel84 cathode biased amps.

I ended building a 19 watts.

The project went from a 14 watts amp without master volume to a 19 watts with master.

You can watch the first version in this youtube link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sct1WsqnBzQ

I was playing the first version in some jam sessions and gigs, and after a few months I thought about give the amp more power and put a master volume for adding versatibility. Some tweaks in the preamp were done too.

Best Regards.

Very nice tone. Care to share any pics you might have of your layout?
