chassis, turret boards
If anyone is interested, I can fabricate turret boards and aluminum chassis fully cutout for amplifier projects. I use a CNC tool and can do fairly precision work.
So far I've got a Trainwreck Express chassis layout and a Marshall 2204 50W layout. I'm looking at doing an Ampeg Reverbrocket (octal tubes) chassis and board next. I will be working on others as well.
The turret boards are done the same way, with the CNC tool. It simply puts the holes where they need to be. Hole-through turrets on .125 Garolite (G-10/FR4).
If you have a DXF file I can work directly with it.
I am only doing this as a hobby so far and I am not a commercial operation. I am throwing it out there to see how much, if any, interest there is and to see where it might go.
The thinking behind the tube stage turret board is kinda like point to point, but the components all orient at different angles and are not all on the same plane. I saw a video of Ken Fisher talking about his ideas on this subject. I posted a picture of the amp using these on a different topic. I have the amp just finished and it sounds fantastic.

Re: chassis, turret boards
Nice chassis!
What kind of cutting tool makes the holes? (Laser? Water? Cutter?)
Do you weld the corners?
What type of fasteners do you use on the chassis to cab mounting holes?
Thanks!

Re: chassis, turret boards
I'd definitely like to talk. That chassis looks awesome. If RJ is indeed deciding to wind things down, there is definitely a need for your services. Check my post in Garage Talk about a new vendor. Perhaps we could work something out.

Re: chassis, turret boards
It is a rotary cutting tool. I don't weld anything, I am not set up for it. I use .090 3003-H14 sheet. It is pretty sturdy once formed.Structo wrote:Nice chassis!

The fasteners are the same as those found in a Dell style rack for mounting the rails - they are captive nuts you can get them by the sackfull for pretty cheap.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm open for discussion.LeftyStrat wrote:I'd definitely like to talk. That chassis looks awesome. Looks great, I'll be contacting you.

I'm interested in one of your Ampeg Reverbrocket (octal tubes) chassis when you decide to build some.

Re: chassis, turret boards
Anybody remember that stuff that somebody used to "weld" the corners together on a aluminum chassis?
If I recall it was like a paste or caulk type thing and could be done with minimal equipment.

Re: chassis, turret boards
Sure do, Tom! It's called TIG welding!
Dood, great looking stuff. I'm in! I also need a set of copper plate face-n-back plates.

Re: chassis, turret boards
Naw, I'm thinking of alumiweld, more like a brazing.
The Dirty Dawg chassis guy, has it as an option on his chassis.
He said you can do it with a propane torch.

I have Ddawg alumaweld all my chassis I order from him I like the extra strength.
Re: chassis, turret boards
Nice. Aluminum only, not mild steel? Just asking.
non ferrous
Thanks. The nature of the tool limits it to non ferrous metals (hi speed rotary). Plasma or water jet would be needed for cutting steel.Firestorm wrote:Nice. Aluminum only, not mild steel? Just asking.
I like aluminum because it is non magnetic and won't propagate stray fields.
Re: chassis, turret boards
I can cut the panels with no problem. However, lettering with the tool is limited to v-bit engraving (or micro ball nose). I am still in the R&D stages of what is possible with the panels. So far I've tried engraving material and plastic. The tool will do any kind of wood and non ferrous metals as well.Reeltarded wrote:Sure do, Tom! It's called TIG welding!

If you have any artwork and you can get it into DXF format, I can work with that directly.
I hear there is somebody out there (through one of these boards) that will laser etch panels. I believe this to be a far superior method to the rotary tool for this application.
