What is your go to adhesive for Tolex? I've tried rubber cements, with smal results, Super77, the Tolex lifts with time. 3M has another product but it has too short an open time for me. Any of the waterborne adhesives useable? Thanx for sharing your experience.

Vinyl floor adhesive. It's a latex glue, water cleanup, no fumes. And cheap, available from Lowe's-type stores.

I use the water based stuff from tubesandmore.com. In the early days I put it on too lightly, and some edges lifted. Needs a good heavy coat on both surfaces, allowed to dry until tacky. Then it does a great job, and stays put for years. I like it because it doesn't smell during application.

I've used what uncle doug showed on his video and it worked well for me, use contact cement on the wood itself. Coat evenly and let it start curing, it gets pretty sticky. Thne as you're ready spray the tolex or tweed with 3M spray adhesive or the like the two bond together really well. I also like that if I get a bubble, etc it's easy to peel back off and retry, gets a lot of glue stringers around but once it sets fully after a day, its STUCK. The only disadvantage is that contact cement STINKS and makes you get high as hell :D

What xtian said. I used this on my cabs for years with good results.

Just make sure you don’t put the Wilsonart or other water based stuff on any painted surfaces, especially near the edges or in humid environments, like here in Hawaii. I just made that mistake. Bare wood with some roughness is best.

I also use this glue. I have tried maybe 6 different types of glues for getting tolex to stick and when it comes down to Performance, Odour, Clean up and Ease of use I think its a real winner.

I’ve covered well over a thousand cabs with Wilsonart H2O with excellent results. Kind of a pain to get though...I get it direct from them.

This was all with the floor glue I mentioned. $8/quart, no fumes, soap & water cleanup, good open time.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Nice work on those cabs, jasonwhitecountry. Is there a specific brand of the stuff that you use?
