Using aluminium wirewound as express choke?

Post by azatplayer »

Is there any reason not to use a 25W ally 1K resistor as the choke in an express? Inductance any different?

No sir, none at all. It's probably the better choice as the cement puppies
tend to warm up and stay that way. I was going to use a 50 watter I had
[it's still smaller than a cement one @ 25W  ] but I ended up using
as many Kenny correct bits as I could find.

I believe Ken would use the superior Al bodied ones
#1} If he had some in his parts drawers
#2} If he couldn't hear them some how changing his fundamental voicing.

That's merely an opinion based on Ken in print and his subsequent use of
those very resistors in his Rocket amps albeit in a different stage.
