Re: Use of 220uF and 330uF in bass channels.

I like the big cap (obviously you don't need something with such a high voltage rating as the video seems to show). I think it works since the coupling cap preceding is small (2200pF), plus smaller cathode bypass (.68uF). One supposed brown sound eyewitness spec with tied cathodes (the Bassman type ...

Re: Fender Bassman 59 Reissue - Mods

cheap?

-make sure all contacts are clean, tight
-put in a bias control
-change any components that need replacing (filters, whatever)
-put in a tube rectifier, possibly one with a relatively higher voltage drop
-change tubes as necessary
-look at the pickup end (adjust resonance by varying C)

note that in the video the open side of the chassis is facing the spk. cab (i.e. right on top of it)

Saw that also. I've seen it happen to other sites (Recording mag if memory serves). Probably compromised from outside (malware, trojan, or whatever). Sucks but I would think it will be resolved (hopefully sooner rather than later).

Re: De-soldering in crowded areas

I use alu foil (the ordinary sort you use in the kitchen). I picked up this idea long ago from someone at the Plexi Palace bbs(sry I forgot your name!). Just don't forget to take it out when you are done.

Re: wiring heaters...ugh

"The lead dress of AC heater supplies is very important for noise reduction. The AC heater wires will have significant EM radiation and should therefore be routed well away from all signal wires, and are usually tucked into the corner of the chassis. The wires should either be made from twin cable ...

Re: Recording audio for the internet???

oops sry, I guess you meant convert to different format (mp3, etc.)? As above, there should be free (or built in) software to do this if that's what you mean. I have something that I used to change wav to mp3 but I haven't used it in a while and forget what it was.

Re: Recording audio for the internet???

you need to upload them somewhere. You could try Youtube, soundclick, etc. Google around. Probably a number of free sites to host sound files.

Re: wiring heaters...ugh

the main thing might be the relative (physical) orientation to the other signal wires(loops) coming in, esp the sensitive ones. Keep the loops at right angles to ea. other sort of like on PCBs where you might have a jumper cross another trace at a strict 90 deg. angle. The little bit from the main t...

Re: noise from guitar cord

I'm not really sure what the goal is here? With no gtr. connected, isn't the lead going to be sort of a "noise probe"? As far as I've read, there do seem to be differences in susceptibility to capacitive noise (that can come from tapping, stepping on, etc. the cable) with different cables but I woul...

Re: Vintage caps identification (with pics).

Noel, the Fuzz Face ones, I think those were(are) metal. polyester AFAIK. The thing I'd like to know is if the "341" means metal poly., the series no., etc. The earlier ones (to my knowledge) have stamped markings, but later they are (embossed?)--where the lettering is indented into the cap. One gen...

Re: noise from guitar cord

if the gtr. isn't connected (open, non-shorted input), isn't that making the amp more susceptible to noise? I'm thinking electrostatic(capacitive).

Re: Vintage caps identification (with pics).

The yellow block cap is metallized polycarbonate film caps....... hi, do you have a source for that somewhere? I'm asking since I'm trying to figure out which ones that look like those are metal. poly. and polycarbonate.(Or, is that specifically referring to the one with "MKC" marked on it?) re: th...
