Re: BYX94 diode

I have used these a lot: 1N4007: Standard Rectifier, 1000 V, 1.0 A I recently started using these: 1N5408: Standard Recovery Rectifier, 1000 V, 3.0 A I am familiar with the sluggish USPS delivery these days. I ordered a tube and a couple of pots 2 weeks ago, 2nd or 3rd business day. It's been two we...

Your choice but if the supplier will replace it I'd send it back.

Re: Analytic expressions for (messing with) potentiometer tapers anyone?

Have you run across this resource?

There is an explanation for the different pot tapers commercially available. It appears the Alpha pots use linear approximations to produce a "logarithmic" curve.

Re: Digital oscilloscope?

The Siglent SDS1052DL at the bottom of that page doesn't look bad I picked one up a couple of years ago. I am not a O-scope power user, it sits on the shelf most of the time, but 2 channels is sufficient for my needs. I see they have since upgraded the display resolution and it is still about the s...

Re: Handling Unused Triodes in 12A?7 tubes

In amps that use, say, only three out of four available triodes in a preamp (i.e. Trainwreck Express, Princeton Reverb with deleted tremolo...), what is the proper way to handle the unused 1/2 of a 12A?7?
3) Use it for a one-triode tremolo. 8)

Very cool build 8) The faceplates are exceptional as is the build quality. I like your use of speed knobs as well. I've never seen them with set screws before.

Re: Thunderbolt Build Pt2

Very cool build! I see you used the Classic Tone transformers. I used the same for a Supro 1688TN clone, 15" speaker, and yes it's heavy. Housed it in a narrow panel-like cabinet.

No Leslie, your playing was always top notch, regardless of how the business fared.

Re: Grain is TOO glossy! How to smooth it out?

+1 on the PreVal sprayer. I've used them many times in guitar fiinishing/refinishing. These run about $5 locally (Home Depot).

Here is a faded brown LP studio I recently refinished as a gold top using preval sprayers for sealer and clear coast. Colors are Duplicolor automotive touch up spray cans.

Re: Marshall Guru's . Help identifying 4x10

I love those 20 Watt Marshalls. Here is a photo-laden link that shows a somewhat over the top speaker arrangement for a 20 Watt Marshall w/tremolo (2022T) including a production 4x10" cab. The cab has a handle on top like your photo. This one indicates it is 1967 vintage. http://www.amparchives.com/...

Re: Merry Christmas everyone from me and the Mrs :)

D'Angelico made guitars in Manhattan in the 30's using the same principles as violin makers. My wife's cousin picked up an original in Queens about 35 years ago; a real piece of history. And that was a fine production from the... kitchen? Awesome guitar and vocals - beautiful actually. Thank you kin...

Re: Tone/Volume: need help to brighten things up

Here is a cure for a dark sounding tone circuit: https://www.drtube.nl/schematics/marshall/2022.gif I built one of these a couple of years ago, the 2061X version (different phase inverter). The 5nF (0.005 uF) treble bleed cap of the lead channel (middle tone/vol combination) can be very bright. Shou...

Re: Good list of components for modding amps?

Let's just say I didn't find much the one time I tried and I never tried again. I know what you mean. One of my friends at work suggested I try a local Hamfest to find audio tubes. I have never bought a tube at a Hamfest worth a damn. There are usually several electronic vendors from down state NY ...

Re: Good list of components for modding amps?

I find I am always in need of of 0.022 uF / 600V capacitors, 68k and 470k 1/2 watt metal film resistors. Picked up a handful of each at a local Hamfest a few years ago for a few bucks.

Re: [QUESTION] Birch Plywood vs Poplar vs Pine

For a low cost wood poplar is a great wood to work with compared to pine. No knots, significantly less warp and cup and easily obtained in wider widths than pine. This has been my experience. I have build four cabinets - 2x10" Bassman narrow panel (poplar), 4x10" Marshall slant (pine), 4x12" Marsha...
