Re: Power soak attenuators

I picked up one of those a couple of years ago. Not a bad little unit - my most powerful amp is a JMP50 clone. As soon as it is cabled up it drops the signal by at least 3-4 dB. Very noticeable, I can dial it down much more, but the volume reduction comes with a proportional deterioration in the ton...

Re: Seven Lessons from How Private Equity Wrecked Guitar Center

Sales children are not unique to GC. We still have a couple of mom/pop music stores locally and one GC. The last time I went to one of the mom & pop stores I was checking out a Godin guitar w/P90s. Very nice guitar - used. There were a couple of kids w/an entry level Jackson electric plugged into an...

The fantastic interplay between Rossington, Collins and King has never been matched. One of my favorite bands. :(

Re: New JJ 6v6S very odd issue

I've had the same thing happen with a pair of EH 6CA7s last year. Anode to heater was shorted on one tube. Those were great sounding tubes and can't get them anymore. :(

I would check both tubes to make sure there is no continuity between pins 2 and 7 and the other pins.

I think he's referring to the headstock inlay or logo, which IMO is superb. Well, actually the whole guitar is superb.

Re: "No More Russian Vacuum Tubes in 2022"

Yes. Try the Tung Sol 6L6GC-STRs. They are still available in matched sets. I bought a pair a few years ago for a Supro 1688 cone project. These puppies absolutely roar! Sweetwater had them on sale - at least $10/ less than Tube Depot or AES. This was for a single tube. They have matched sets too, a...

Re: Building a kit from Mod Electronics

I have been trying to search this forum for any threads on this kit but the only results are on a "102" Probably because no one has had trouble building this amp with the supplied directions. Those are very good instructions and well illustrated. Far more info there than the news in my Sunday paper.

Re: Why Is The Supro Thunderbolt Considered A Great Amp?

That must be a schematic error, no?
The grid leaks in the Thunderbolt power amp schematic appear repeatedly in a lot of other Valco amplifier schematics.

Re: Headcab Liverpool design

My favorite wood is ash. It exhibits a strong grain like oak, without (to me) the annoying speckles in the wood. Also red oak, very nice. These woods are very hard, heavy, and take a good bit of grainfiller to result in a level surface. That finish may seem to be out of character with a Trainwreck c...

Are you sure those resistors in the image annotated by bepone aren't touching? Any chance the enamel on them or the cap insulation is chipped?

I think he is referring to the connections to the power and standby switches. I solder to these connections all the time, no issues, but the spades on my switches are brass.

Re: Spruce 1x10 cabinet

The narrow panel cabinet's baffle is secured to the top and bottom valences with a screw in each corner. I put a rubber washer between the baffle and the valence. Let me find a few photos - one I did in plywood. I used a 15" speaker on this one.
