Re: Farty bass on '66 Fender Pro

Great work Rich! Thanks for sharing your trouble-shooting adventure. It was very educational. (btw - Stop by Big Jim's and have a BBQ for me in celebration. I still miss that place.)

Re: The End of 18Watt.com

Definitely going to miss 18watt. I usually lurked there a couple times a day. Hardly had to ask any questions because the answers were in the archives. What a great bunch of helpful, knowledgeable folks.

Re: teflon wire

They're probably two different voltage ratings. When I got some wire from Apex, I got a mix of 600V and 1000V. (Steve asked if that was OK before shipping.) The 600V looks pretty skinny and the teflon is quite thin. The 1000V looks more like regular PVC.

Re: Soldering Station Suggetions

I use a Weller WES50. It's the forerunner of the WES51. Basically the same iron with a different handle connector. It's been a good workhorse without any problems. I have the smallest (1/16"?) screwdriver tip on it and use 700F. Found some other reviews here: http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/2671

Re: cathode cap question

This is way over my head, but basically the idea in paralleling an electrolytic with a smaller value film cap is to overlap the high-impedance (resonance) point of the "bad" cap by a low impedance from the second cap. I've seen this more in power supply filtering. Here's a quote from a website that ...

Re: Caps across plate resistors

I found a possible explanation here: http://www.booyaka.com/~al/audio/theory_electronics/valve-theory.txt Here's the pertinent section: In many super high gain preamps you'll find very small bypass caps attached to the plate resistors. These caps allow extremely high frequencies that might cause "sq...
