SS Effects Loop - JCM-800 and JMP50 Clones
My son had been asking me to put an effects loop into a JCM-800 clone I built for him about 15 years ago. I was really not interested in the surgery necessary to add a tube-buffered loop, so I scoured the web for a solid state loop. I was familiar with Metro loop, but ran across schematics for the M...

Re: Davis 201-A Donor amp - Suggestions Please?
Here you go. Hope this helps.
FWIW I found the PT produced ~300 VDC. I built a clone Marshall 2061X using the OT and a spare Hammond PT. I still need to build a head cab for it.

Re: Parallel el34 OT question
For my parallel SE amplifier, I wired the OT primaries in parallel, the secondaries in series. The OTs are Hammond 125ESE. This is essentially two AX84 P1Extreme poweramps running EH 6CA7s (close enough to your EL34s) into a 4 x 10" Marshallesque open back cab w/4 Emi Ramrod speakers @ 8 Ohms impeda...

Re: Parallel single ended 6v6 amp with a half power switch
No sound samples. I am not good at describing sounds very well, but I'll give it a shot. I think the choice of power amp tube makes a big difference in this amplifier. I tried it with 6L6GCs and Sovtek 5881 skis - sounded a little bright or brittle. Got more brash with EL34s, but the 6550s and 6CA7s...

Re: Parallel single ended 6v6 amp with a half power switch
If I were to build another one, I'd leave out the cathode switch on V1. The shared cathode sounds so much better than split.

Re: Parallel single ended 6v6 amp with a half power switch
Here's my take - a pair of 6CA7s driven by parallel Hammond 125E OTs. Preamp is derived from a Hiwatt DR103. Sounds nothing like the Hiwatt, but sounds great. My favorite amp. I used two OTs as I had one from a previous build and wanted to use it on another build - but different. So I paralleled ano...

Re: MoJo Brit 800 Build: At My Wits End!!!!
Wow, your voltages are 70 volts low right out of the gate. Do you have spare rectifier diodes? Are they oriented correctly? The sound would be pretty bad if so, so may not be the issue, but right off the chocks your voltage is low.

Re: Cool performance, check out the equipment.
That is Duck Dunn on bass and a very young Steve Cropper playing the Tele. Must be the Stax house band, Booker & MGs, backing Sam & Dave. Cool video. Here they are about 15 years later backing another band, obviously inspired by Sam & Dave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTWH1Fdkjow Hard to tell bu...

Re: Supro S6497 Red Plating Mystery (to me)
Yes, 470R / 5W screen resistors.
My power tubes are Tung Sol 6L6GC-STR. I have also tried some Sovtek 5881s. Rectifier is a Sylvania 5U4GB.

Re: Supro S6497 Red Plating Mystery (to me)
That poweramp is virtually identical to the 1688TN, except the PI coupling caps are 0.047 uF, and the PI cathode resistors/bypass cap are swapped. I built one a couple of years ago, but added 470K / 5W screen resistors and upped the poweramp cathode resistor to 250 R. No redplating. I have about the...

Re: Tips for solder flow
Here's a simple approach that worked for me a while back. Not turrets but eyelets. Same problem - would not take solder. I etched them overnight in vinegar (acetic acid). The next day they worked fine.
