Re: Audio Generator
If you're looking for that cool vintage space rock sound, you may want to go with that EICO 377 Audio Generator. Here is a page with it & some other nice test equipment. The EICO 377 is about halfway down: http://ca.geocities.com/jefftranter@rogers.com/radios/test-equipment/index.html It looks like ...

12 ohms out
Would a 12Ω speaker out on a 1-2 watt amp be considered unstable? Wouldn't this work okay with either an 8Ω or a 16Ω cabinet without much turmoil? I'm just wondering what the impedance mismatch of +/- 4Ω would do to a mini setup. I'm sure it will work fine, but just curious about...

Re: Material for Turret Board
computers are great...one PC power supply provide you AC plug, high voltage snubber caps, 2/5W MO resistors and enought decent wire for an amp(mostly 300v yellow black & red). olivier Thanks for the excellent idea! I just asked our IT guy here @ work for an old power supply from a junk computer & it...

Re: Parts List
Well, circumstances kept me from scrounging through the pre-auction inventory. I missed the boat on that one. But, my friend felt sorry for me & gave me a nice Hakko variable temp soldering station. Wasn't a total loss.

Re: KF Memorial Amp Clips
The hosting company appears to have gone out of business. Allyn now has it setup with a different company. They are working on getting it back up on the new server and that's all I know Gotcha. Just wanted to check & see if I could help out somehow. I actually downloaded the ampbuilders guild pages...

If you don't mind my asking, what are the technical difficulties with the amp guild website? Is it something we (maybe I) can help with?UR12 wrote:Guys
We have had a couple of technical difficulties with the ampbuildersguild website. I think the powers that be are working on getting it back up.

Material for Turret Board
What should I take into consideration when choosing a material for my turret boards? It seems to me that it would not matter much since these are mainly passive components with audio applications, maybe just a thickness issue?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Tube Spacing
What is the theory behind tube spacing? Is there an optimum/standard distance observed for tube placement, maybe dependent upon type/power being used? Given the dynamics of tubes, what would cause interference between them, thus defining this spacing?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Transformer Spacing & Orientation
It was a pain, but back then bigger was better & I was pretty young and healthy. I lugged it all around for years & just recently got rid of the two 1X18 cabs. I can't seem to part with the rest of it, so it is stashed in my garage. These days I play guitar & have a Vox combo as well as a 2X12 cab w...

Re: Transformer Spacing & Orientation
Old Hiwatt chassis had the PT at one end and the OT at the other, which made the amps nicely balanced to carry. 8) However, the chassis were large and deep, so they had plenty of space to play with internally. --mark Hi Mark, Thanks for the Hiwatt pic. That helps answer my question about placement....

Re: Transformer Spacing & Orientation
And answering your other questions.... Signal amplification should happen in a linear order from one end of the chassis toward the other. Run filament lines using twisted pair and keep them tight against the chassis. Hi Paul, Thanks for the info. You touched on a couple of other issues I was curiou...

Transformer Spacing & Orientation
Being a newbie, I have been doing lots of reading on tube amp design. Well, one of the things I ran across talked about spacing the 2 trannies pretty good & mounting one of them at an angle to the other to reduce the flux field interference between them. This makes perfect sense to me, but when I lo...
