Iwould highly advise anyone to go through the testing procedures with the tubes out of the amp and make sure the VVR is connected...

Tube rectos needs to have a filter cap on the output of the tube and before the VVR. If you are installing the VVR right after the recto and before the first fiter cap then that COULD be your problem.
