Re: Gibson GA-100 Information

I'd go with 250ma, 200ma minumum. I remember the PT being pretty decent sized. It was supposed to be a bass amp. That should keep it running cool and keep the B+ from sagging too much.

Re: Gibson GA-100 Information

I restored a GA-100 for a friend. Sorry, no pictures and he no longer owns it. :( I never liked the compression circuit with a guitar. You could leave it out. His had a reissue Jensen P12N in it. It was a great sounding amp. Good headroom and, yes, it did take pedals very well. I have over the years...

Re: Cascode input stage w/octal

The cascode has great gain but doesn't really sound like a small pentode. If that's really the sound you're after, go with the pentode.

Re: Pickup Resistance

If all else is equal, the higher DC resistance pickup would go in the bridge position.

Re: Bad Sozo caps???

Hmmmm. What you mentioned about the standby switch has me wondering about the switch itself. A poor connection inside the switch dropping voltage could cause the problem you're experiencing. If that is the only way you are able to make the problem correct itself that just might be very telling.

Re: Bad Sozo caps???

Was Germino able to recreate the problem when he had it? It sounds like a bad Bass or Mid pot. Do you have a cathode bypass cap on the triode driving the cathode follower/tone stack? That being wonky could cause that kind of problem too.

Re: Robben Ford - SE Wisconsin/Northern IL

Since I am in Milwaukee and a big Robben fan, I'd say that I'd be there with bells on! I saw him with Larry Carlton at the Pabst. I had front row seats. Just awesome!

The Blackface era was Schumacher. Triad before that. I don't think Fender ever used Hammond. Traynor certainly did, though.

Re: Lend me your ears

I thought the MM sounded somewhat muffled, cleaner and "drier" sounding. I much preferred the Heyboer and the Magnetic Components. Everyone hears things differently. I'm using Alesis powered monitors to listen to the clips. What you listen through makes a difference, too.

Here it is. I didn't draw it, so I don't know if it's accurate. Enjoy!
