Re: Mechnically connecting parts and wire on eyelet board?
What's your favorite technique for connecting parts and wire on an eyelet board? I've seen people twist parts together, I've seen people hook parts and wire around the eyelet and use the solder to connect the parts and I've seen people bend a 180 degrees hook on everything MIL spec and hook the par...

Re: a huge thank you to amp garage!!
Lummox, Great job and I like your creative approach to the task. The bonus in our field of endeavor is when they look as bitchin' as they sound. Will you be listing the measured voltages when time permits? No one ever posts screen shots of their scope measurements but we'd love the accumulated data....

Re: Chassis thoughts
@Mark Abbott, Point taken Mark. I really should have thought before I chimed in. In total I've built only two "ground up" amps and both chassis came from Allyn. I'm not a sheet metal worker but I've fab'd my share of storefront projects to have accumulated a familiarity with the process. I used knoc...

Re: Chassis thoughts
I think Brandon's chassis are the ideal design to submit to a competent sheet metal fabricator. I was lucky to score one. The damn thing is I'd have to transfer all of the details as an orthometric drawing in order to get bids for a small run. My point is Brandon left nothing to chance with his prod...

Re: Source For Nice Looking Nuts & Bolts? 4-40 etc
I'm quite fond of s/s cap and button head screws for builds. TM I too am fond of the SS button heads with 5/32nds Allen sockets mated to SS aircraft lock nuts. I'm one of those clowns who is mesmerized by the "Beauty in the Details" affectations. I have some local suppliers who's entire stock is co...

It seems that Lee and Dan may have gone to the same amp repair schools.

Re: My new soldering station...
I lurv my Hakko 926 ESD. I've replaced the heater element and 2 tips in 15 years of hearty use. Dartanion that price seems exorbitant. I don't think I paid over $30 bux at Fry's. I remember Velleman kits from when I first got bit by the 'lectrisickles bug. They sold a decent enough Hi-Fi tube amp ki...

Re: Vintage caps identification (with pics).
Dai, I don't have any idea of those cap's make-up. I just meant older Fuzz Faces used a yellow cap with hot stamped I.D. markings. I have a few of them in the 2.2µf 400V size and they are almost as big as a bar of soap! Just as clean sounding too. Probably make a nice HiFi amplifier with them in the...

Re: ooooooooooouch!!!!
Hammer/Mallet trumps gloves! Gloves can be the cause of injuries as well as protection when working in close to spinning objects. I once had a miniscule shard of plate glass go strait into the left thumb's joint between the two flanges[sp?]. I could not play guitar without aggravating that sucker. I...
