A044 Conversion...

Pretty much a stock A044 reverb amp with the FET input stage removed and a seven pin pentode stage. Built it for my brother in law who is a pedal junkie and just a bare-bones amps. Speaker is a Peavey Sheffield. Great sounding 8 watt amp but the price for A044 amps is climbing. [IMG:800:600]http://i...

Class D module

The above mentioned class-D module is from Sure which also sells on ebay heavily. The dip switches on the board sets the gain and headroom. I used these modules for a surround sound amplifier with success. The highest gain setting is around 0.6 V rms and the lowest is 1.5 V rms or so, but check the ...

shielded...

I built a high gain preamp a couple of years ago that required some shielding and it was very apparent that there was some tone loss when using shielded cable. I started replacing the shielded cable with twisted pair wire one run at a time and there was an increase in clarity and note definition. It...

Re: Ready to go SMPS for 15W tube amps!

I'm writing to Mike, but obviously is an "occidentalized" name, many Chinese companies do this to make people more comfortable. He wrote me that by now he can only sell SMPS with: 90W for HV and 35W for heaters. I proposed 360V 250mA and 6.3V 5A. And I asked prices for 10 20 50 pcs for a group buy....

Re: Ready to go SMPS for 15W tube amps!

Probably want a higher quality supply for a beefier amp. Redundancy is good. Agreed. My thoughts here are a low noise single ended wreck style for practice/recording or a good low gain amp to use with pedals. Single ended 6v6 etc. Or possibly a rack mount multi-channel preamp would be a good applic...

SMPS

It's hard to make judgement by looking at the simplicity of the circuit, the SOC designers are integrating so many more components these days. I have Panasonic SMPS from a microwave oven on my bench and it doesn't look much more complicated than the supply in question. It is able to maintain stabili...

The Peavey VB-3 300watt tube bass amp is already using a switch mode power supply. I think it weighs in at 38 pounds versus 85 pounds for a Ampeg SVT head. It doesn't go toe to toe with the SVT, but the power supply is not at fault there.

Re: Ready to go SMPS for 15W tube amps!

Interesting. What are the L,N and E terminals? I assume those are for the AC in? Also, it has one 280V output. If that's your B+, does that voltage get used for B+1 and B+2 etc as well? Sorry if those are stupid questions, but I've never seen one of these before. Should be Line, Neutral, and Earth....

SMPS

Well I took a leap and ordered one to try out, if anything it would make a decent bench supply for prototyping preamps. It says the switching frequency is above 80Khz so it should have minimal effect on the noise level. I had used switching supply before for the filaments and the one thing I ran int...

Hello, I built up a ecc82 PP power stage Express too. What changes at the PI you are planing? I have there a Cathodyn classic with 56k Anode. The only change I´ve there is 470 Ohm instead of 1 M. Sounds not bad this animal. Hans-Jörg I am just making some tweeks to the LTP, although a cathodyne doe...

Z-wreck / Rocket inpsired low power build starting...

Starting mocking up and drilling the chassis for a low powered rocket-z using russian ECL82's as the power stage and a vintage organ output transformer. Some changes had to made to the phase inverter due to the triode section of the ECL82 being closer to a 12AT7 in gain and current rating.

Tried a interation of the pre-amp

So I have been messing around with a octal preamp version of a psuedo SSS: 6SQ7 -> Tonestack -> parallel 6SL7 stage (blend knob for the parallel tube) -> 6SL7 reverb recovery stage -> 12AX7 phase splitter -> 6n6p cathode follower -> 6x 6l6GC. I will post pictures, schematics and sound tracks soon. G...

MM iron.

I think the mercury magnetic products sound great, but I did have some issues with the filament supply on one of their power transformers sagging to low to mid 5 volts at a current draw of only about 75% of the rated filament current. It was a 100w plexi power transformer. I had bought an un-built M...

Re: Opinions on 6SL7, 6SN7?

Thats a very nice sounding 2 watt amp. Very useful for today. Nice job. And your guitar playing friend has great chops. I have become a fan of octal tubes giving a "big" sound at lower volumes. After I finished that preamp, the owner of the preamp and myself built a plexi head version with 6b4g pus...
