Re: your favorite electrolytics
EPCOS 450V rated 10,000 hours, low ESR, made in Germany, compare to F&T ratings.

Re: Anyone built a Weber Heather or SLO clone?
Hmm ok This is my first PCB software so I'm not too familiar. Just think of it as a drawing program, the main tools you will use along the left horizontal toolbar are Add Pad, Add Track, Add Text, and Add Shape. For example click Add Pad, now you can move your mouse pointer around the screen and dr...

Re: Anyone built a Weber Heather or SLO clone?
KDmay - I checked out that link .. very clean work! Makes my lead dress look pretty weak, ha ha I am a slocloneforums member but I have found a lot of the content there is old, with dead links etc. That said there is good info there if you spend enough time sorting through it. I can't seem to find ...

Re: Anyone built a Weber Heather or SLO clone?
Coolidge those boards look sweeeet, how much did they run you to have them made. They look like you really went top of the line with them. Bill Yep those boards are not the econo thin one sided green 1/2oz copper variety. When you spec out custom boards I found nobody will build you just 1 set of b...

Re: Anyone built a Weber Heather or SLO clone?
PCB/Turret hybrid ala Randall Aiken the best of both worlds. I designed my own boards so that I could use my choice of components some of which would not fit on available kits and boards and also to allow for a few changes and options I made to the circuit and Mercury Magnetics PT. This took a LOT l...

Re: Chassis questions
Use a CNC punch press shop with a computer controlled bender, they can make all sorts of complex bends.

You could try a "dress nut" search for those on Mouser or Digikey.

Re: SLO inspired Metamorphic - build thread
Looks bulletproof! What's the philosophy behind the 2-sided pcb plus turrets? There are pro's and con's to PCB vs Turret construction, this is largely the best of both worlds. 1. Some components are just better suited to PCB like the relays and smaller components. 2. There are many mods one can mak...

Re: !!
Rough guess $1,600, building a small number of anything is expensive. Speaking of expensive anyone price 1lb of lead free solder lately holy crap!Decko wrote:Wow, that is over the top!
So what does a build like this cost?

Re: SLO inspired Metamorphic - build thread
Now that I've had me some fun building the boards I need to finish the CAD for the chassis and get that off to my CNC punchpress shop guys. I usually have Front Panel Express make separate faceplates but I think I'm going to have the chassis silk screened this time instead. Here's my front panel moc...

Re: SLO inspired Metamorphic - build thread
Here's the power supply board. I entertained DC heaters for a while then opted for elevated AC. Also here is a regulated 5vdc supply off an accessory tap for the LED's and relays. I'm using Mercury Magnetics transformers and choke, thus a full wave bridge vs full wave in the SLO. [img:853:558]http:/...

Re: SLO inspired Metamorphic - build thread
I'm still waiting for a few components to arrive but here's the pre-amp board largely completed. Mojo Dijon caps, PRP 1 watt audio resistors, relays vs LDR's, film caps vs electrolytics. SLO inspired Metamorphic - build thread
I decided to build a SLO inspired 6L6 100 watt amp for my new PRS MEQ. Now that I'm finally making some progress thought I'd start a build thread for anyone who's interested. First up these Aiken inspired hybrid PCB/Turret boards. FR-4 .125 inch thick, plated through holes, 2oz copper. Keystone 1509...

Re: ampclones Who are these guys?
Reminds me of Randall Aiken's boards. I don't wanna know how many hours went in to that layout. Oh wait, I do actually! Randall is exactly where I got the idea for these boards, I exchanged email with him a while back thanking him. Oh jeeze a great many hours over 6+ months. A maddening process I'm...
