Re: 1987 clone mods.
That is sound logic. So what might be the best way to disconnect the normal channel and leave the treble channel as is so I can free up the other volume pot to use as a switchable volume for the treble channel? . Your opening up a can of worms you might not be ready for. Leave them stock and boost ...

I will 3rd. that motion . I have both and read thru them all the time. I use them as my main referance books.
Sometimes I almost think I know what Im doing after reading them. (LOL) then there's that dose of reality when I forget the next day and have to look it up again.

Re: A hypothetical grid stopper question...
In theory still Merlin says best to have the grid stopper on pin of the tube because the wire from input to tube acts as a radio antena.

Re: Sag in Express
Just mimick the jtm 45 filtering in the first 2 stages. I havnt looked at what the filtering is. But sounds like your talking about filtering, when people talk about fast or slow responce.

Re: Express hiss (fixed)
Differant tubes even from the same brands have a varying levels of noise . Certain tube testers can test for noise I found a good seller with that particular tester. It was either a maxi matcher or amplitrex 1000. Now i only buy from those type of people . A super quiet tube in V1 makes all the diff...

Re: Input jacks for thick faceplates
What pots will you use there? They'll also need long threaded "necks". Personally, I'd use a standard sheet metal front panel, I use aluminum but you can also use steel if you have the proper tooling, and glue a thin veneer sheet, real wood of course, which can be stained, burnt, polished, lacquere...

Re: Input jacks for thick faceplates
Mulling this over further, my idea would mess things up if the jack is the means of holding the faceplate to the chassis at that point. Would need something to replace the jack's role in that case. dave Dave I was using a marshall style oak head cab I made and have some super heavy duty, double sid...

Re: Input jacks for thick faceplates
Im with you Andy I dont like my input grounded to the chassis. On single stage amps, I like valve wizards lifted grounding scheme. I might just take a little of the top in front and not let cosmetics get in the way.

Re: Input jacks for thick faceplates
Thanks guys . Mike I had some 1/8th inch thick rocket faceplates made seemed like an ok idea at the time . I will work it from a differant angle I have the long switch craft jacks . I will have to make them work. Having them grounded throws off my grounding schem. but I can insulate them I guess. Th...
