Re: Starting to populate the chassis....
Immediately, I see you don't have your heaters wired up. That is typically not shown on layouts bc it is assumed the builder knows that. That would not cause your smoking resistor. The problem is likely on or under your power supply board. I suggest looking for shorts to ground first. Looks like you...

Re: 3rd Gen started
You have to try it yourself Franco, lossy mp3's are not going to cut the mustard. I had to live with it for a while to properly understand what I was hearing. The A/B box allows you to hear the difference straightaway, subtle, but noticeable... it takes a matter of time to determine whether you pre...

Re: 2nd Gen Build
Hi Dan, its all looking fantastic and coming together quickly. Btw, how have you grounded your output jacks? I ended up grounding the loop on the pots grounding bar and the output jacks to a ground lug next V4. Hope that helps in some way. ATB Good eyes! I had not really decided where to ground it ...

Re: 2nd Gen Build
A bit more progress, all iron mounted and most of the power amp wired up. I put a little ring of shrink tube on one lead of the choke to keep it straight when swapping later.

Finished up all of the wiring before adding iron and boards. PXL_20240330_203940665.jpg PXL_20240330_204008224.jpg Choke is from a 1966 Bassman, measuring 95.5 ohms resistance and 3.193H inductance. Also bought a peak atlas LCR meter. Way more accurate on capacitance than my meters and none of mine...

Looks great! Very interesting note about the cab construction. I'll have to take a peak inside mine and see how they were built.

Re: AN Wonderland/JM 100w layout
Personally, I would not bother with a half power or a triode switch. This amp sounds great at low volume settings as is.

Re: Starting to populate the chassis....
Question: What are these abbreviations ??? LNFB GNFB Thanks Brian Local negative feedback. In an ODS, this is the 20M-.047u-20M network at V1b from plate to grid. But one of the main distinguishing features of #183 is it has no LNFB. you could make that switchable since I see you already have the n...

Re: 3rd Gen started
In the photos, is the orientation indicated by a mark added by the builder, or a factory label, which is likely to be random in orientation? I can't see any separate marking in the photos other than how the caps are labeled. I wonder if members here who have been inside 2nd and 3rd Gen amps might c...
