Re: why 35 watts?

heh i was reading recently eddie VH was running his stock super lead 100 watt plexi into a 20 ohm power resistor ....but with the variac turned down so it's comperable to a 50 watter (same preamp schematics and the extra output tubes and bigger trannies)...so he's running the power tubes way under b...

Re: Express and Liverpool Kits

um.... heh. well i gotta say i like to prototype as much as the next guy but a kit is kind of attractive if it isn't overly expensive....having said that i HAVE NEVER MET AN AMP I DIDN"T JUST have to tweak; " cause turning the knobs just don't get it!" where's that soldering iron and those extra cap...

Re: Komet

attenuators don't seem to be aproblem if they are good ones like the air brake (big ohmite power resisters, no inductor fancy stuff) but they aren't cheap to build or buy since the ohmite resistors are like 15 to 20 $ each and you need a big box too like 8" X 11" heh since the resistors are huge. bu...

Re: New guy just getting started

"input resistor" (68 k is part of dynamicsor lack thereof) in the trainwreck it's not there to give better sensitivity to playing hard or soft....if you put it in you loose sensitivity and a little treble. colors on schematics indicate parts that are verified "black ones" parts that are in the fende...

Re: Looking for some cabinet specs for an express?

the old T.V. marshall cabs sound great ...the reissues not so great... but a note the reissues are not as deep as the old ones...by one inch.so if you want a 4X 12 cabinet go mesure any marshall cabinet and add one inch to the depth to get the older sound ( this is because the standing wave inside t...

rock and roll you are referring to the spl, sound pressure level. whic in a small room you get more of due to the reflection of the sound waves ....but a note i live out in the middle of no where and i dime my amps all the time ...so it's only my preference for the less is more approach of the expre...

Re: Empty Blank Aluminum box anybody?

wow, what a circus we have here huh? ...well i allready compared the schematics between the komet and the express and they are different amps.....diff post . also who would want to clone a komet? it's sooo damn loud and really it's kind of an offshoot of the express; which frankly in my opinion is m...

Re: Tube Rattle

i read ken said to put the express on the floor , hehe i boult a clone in a combo where the speakers were right in front of the chassis...you know that was a pain to tune in since the sound shakes the chassis...never again ...comboes are terrible for high gain amps...those el34 winged c power tubes ...

Re: Popping again.....Cap across channel switch?

relays make noise optocouplers don't...fender soldano and boogie all use optocouplers the soldano lead 100 has a nice setup for 2 master volumes if i recall.... the optocouplers are always Vactec VTL5C1 and hey you can use the 6.3 volt supply to run them ...look at the slo 100 watt soldano at blue g...
