Re: Wish me luck

Probably because every time I talk to friends or family they want something from me so I just avoid em anymore.
Ha! Ain't it true. I never talk with the family (wife's anyway) since the ONLY time they call me is when they want something. Leeches.

Re: Rivera designed Super Champ layout?

Spare triode? How about a tremolo oscillator?

Here's an idea: http://sluckeyamps.com/trem/trem.htm

Very cool video. I know what he means by o-scopes being limited.

This would make a good topic for a Masters thesis.

Re: A Question Of Tone...?

Check the variation in preamp wiring from these two otherwise identical amplifiers. https://www.drtube.com/schematics/marshall/2019.gif https://www.drtube.com/schematics/marshall/2022.gif One channel of each is emphasizes the bass freqs and the other is brighter (with a 500 pF peaker cap parallel to...

Re: Kay 703-based design

Are you using a 1/2 wave rectifier in the amp? Might be a source of hum.

Re: Thinking about moving south

Don't delete! This has been an entertaining thread. Unlike you my mother lives ~1000 miles away. Hard for me to pack up and move (to "NA" - Muscle Shoals area) as my wife's family is local here (Southern Tier NY). A lot of us think we live in a 5hithole. You are not alone my friend!

Re: Effects loop for SV20ish amp

Attached is the layout I developed.

If I were to do it again, I'd add true bypass to the loop (switch). As designed the loop is persistently in the signal path.

Re: Effects loop for SV20ish amp

Why yes, yes it was. so far a waste of my money and time I have built that loop several times - no issues. Put one in my son's JCM-800 clone, my 1987 clone and a single ended amplifier. I added trimmer pots but I don't think they are really necessary. Chorus and Reverb sound great. I haven't tried ...

Re: Thinking about moving south

Gulf Coast you say? Mobile, Alabama . Hands down the friendliest place on earth. I spent part of a summer and fall there working on a flight simulator for the USCG. Locals were super nice. Weather (early 90s) was much more tolerable in the summer than say Orlando or W.Palm Beach, Florida where I fir...

Re: Vox-style grillcloth patented | legal issues?

Kind of reminds me of Dimarzio's patent for cream colored Humbuckers. How can you patent a color? There is no such thing, it is a visual perception.

Re: jtm 45 build issues

Hopefully this will help. I have had trouble on more than one occasion where I had a 470K resistor in place of a 470R resistor at the PI cathode. This resulted in a very low volume sound. Might be worth a check there.

I really hope you find the issue. JTM45s are awesome sounding amplifiers. 8)

I could listen to this album all day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-5aPNxv-pU

IIRC Al Kooper dissed this song as stupid. Fuck you Al.

RIP Garry Rossington.

Re: Power soak attenuators

I picked up one of those a couple of years ago. Not a bad little unit - my most powerful amp is a JMP50 clone. As soon as it is cabled up it drops the signal by at least 3-4 dB. Very noticeable, I can dial it down much more, but the volume reduction comes with a proportional deterioration in the ton...
