Re: Trem-wreck?

Issue is I definitely want OP tube bias modulated Trem. Would the “extra” single triode from the preamp be adequate to drive the trem? Maybe for 6v6s but not 6L6s? Should I plan on needing an extra tube since I want the LTPI? Here's a neat little trem that modulates the power tube grids. Uses 1 tri...

Holy Orthogonal Batman! Check out this 'wreck!

Very nice work. Almost looks like a CAD rendering it is so perfectly arranged.

Re: 5F6A Tweed Bassman Layout

Note that there may be subtle differences between the Weber and the original Fender layout. Ditto. I build one from scratch using both the Fender and Weber layout. The Weber layout is an excellent reference to have handy; legible, and big enough that I don't have to peer at it through my eyeglasses...

Re: My first DIY tube amp

So I was thinking of building one next year, perhaps. I'm looking for a simple amp with lots of headroom. A 'wreck can be a real son-of-a-gun to tame. You can learn a lot by going over to AX84.com, hosted by Doberman Amps. They can set you up with a basic kit, a P1, sort of like a Champ. Two tubes ...

Very nice amplifier work. Also, that is a beautiful "Thinline" sort of guitar there. Appears to have Filtertron-esque pickups. Very nice.

Re: I am looking to Install OT & Choke in a Marshall 2061x H

I can’t imagine that Mercury knows more about which transformers work best in Marshall amps than Marshall Amplifiers does. Yes, you would think that. However, it is apparent that more than a few of the RIs have smoked the PT and the OT while under warranty; required replacement. The Amp is smoke'n ...

Re: I am looking to Install OT & Choke in a Marshall 2061x H

never touch the chassis with one hand while working on the circuit with the other. An excellent pointer. One quick addition here is the "hand in pocket rule" - keep one hand in your pocket while probing with the other. This will prevent an inadvertent electrical shock from crossing your heart. As f...

D.D. plays like he means it because he DOES mean it, every note of it. It's all his, too. How many other guys can play upside down lefty strung righty with those telephone poles he strings that thing with?

Great duo there; great song.

Here's one of my favorites, love his tone: http://youtube.com/watch?v=xoXI1zZbGIc
Bass player really anchors the rhythm there.

Great looking amp there Paul - as usual.

And thanks for the Durafix tip - looks like neat stuff :D . I thought welding aluminum required a heliarc setup.

That's like when your ol' lady asks, "Does my ass look too fat in these jeans?" There really isn't any correct answer, is there?!
Only wrong ones. When she asks you that, you know you are screwed. Might as well have fun with it, like "Fat ass? What ass?"

Re: 1976 JMP Master volume model MKII

Okay yes, 2203. I missed the two extra filter caps in the first photo. It appears f that there was no way to jumper the inputs ion the early 220X series amplifiers - sacrificed for a Master Vol pot. Later schematics show that the inputs were ganged in series (ala JCM800). Does that sound right? Than...

Re: rectifier-bias

is the 5Y3 safe to use?
Don't know why it is red, but 5Y3's typically draw 3 amps, whereas GZ34 /5U4s draw 2 amps. Is your transformer's 5VAC supply rated for 3 amps?
