Re: Help with 50 watt OT choice
Sure, the #124 pics can be found here: www.roblivesey.com/dumble (you need to click on the 'Dumble #0124/' when you get there). #124 is a good reference as it is well documented and I believe Nik used it as the basis for his OTS model (although there are differences such as high plate vs low plate e...

Re: Help with 50 watt OT choice
...then again, the OT does sit under the boards which would have to be lifted to install. So you may be best replacing the OT at the same time as tweaking the lead dress if you want to avoid undoing any work later.

Re: Help with 50 watt OT choice
That might be what I am experiencing, I'm not as impressed as I would like to be with the tones I'm getting. I have been attributing it to the undersized (in my opinion) OT, but maybe you are pointing out the culprit. If I was in your situation, I'd look at emulating the lead dress in the #124 pics...

Re: Help with 50 watt OT choice
I used a Hammond 1760L (Bassman replacement) in my OTS 50 and that seemed to work out great.

Re: Which PT for Overtone Special?
For the 266m6, I think the 3A refers to the maximum current it can safely deliver. So I believe you would be fine with that one.

Re: Which PT for Overtone Special?
It's a shame that Twin PT doesn't have a tap suitable for the relays Kassie.
Sounds like some extra holes may be required after all.

Re: Which PT for Overtone Special?
Actually I'm using this one:
http://www.hammondmfg.com/pdf/EDB291DEX.pdf which has 230mA on the secondaries but only 4A on the heaters.

Re: Which PT for Overtone Special?
To be fair, Hammonds site also describes the upgrade in more detail, I just needed to scroll to the top of the pageeazilyled wrote:Then there's the 291EX which is simply described by Hammond as a '290EX upgrade'.

Found this:

Describes the upgrade as follows:
"The 291FX is an upgrade to the 290FX featuring high grade 29M6 magnetic steel laminations for reduced losses, more surge output power, cooler operation & longer life."

Re: Which PT for Overtone Special?
Mounting centers match, don't know about the cut-out. Good spot Martin. Kassie, I would go with Martins recommendation here especially since no chassis drilling is required. Then there's the 291FEX which is simply described by Hammond as a '290FEX upgrade'. Mine was also an 'upgraded' version. Wond...

Re: Which PT for Overtone Special?
I believe that must be the Twin type replacement that Kassie is considering, but it's probably worth emphasising that my PT was a Super Reverb / Tweed Bassman type replacement and would only be suitable for 50w builds.martin manning wrote:This is a 100W? Re: Which PT for Overtone Special?
Looks really good! very nice build. That shiny extra steel plate is for added stability to the chassis I presume? I measured the Ceriatone chassis holes.. they are 9.5cm by 7.6 (3.74'' by 2.99'') The Hammond 373fx has 3.5 by 3.5 If I add washers inbetween the mounting legs, and the iron I might ext...

Yes, the 5V tap works fine for the relays.Kassie wrote:I see your trafo also had an extra 5v tap? Did it work out fine for to power the relays?eazilyled wrote:It always stays pretty cool when I play the amp.
Yes that's the dropping resistor I changed - went up to 4K7.
