Re: Need help tweeking a schematic for 6k6 amp
I built an amp using a pair of 6K6GT’s. I chose the Edcor XPWR224 PT https://edcorusa.com/products/xpwr224-540v270-0-270-125ma-6-3v3-15-0-3-15-3a-5v-2a?_pos=4&_fid=f97a65570&_ss=c 270-0-270v @ 125mA 3.15-0-3.15v @ 3A 0-5v @ 2A The info I’ve recorded using a 5Y3GT rectifier: 310v @ plates 285v @ scre...

Have you tried it vertical?

Re: New F&T 100uf 350v caps: Tip Of The Week
I once read something (perhaps a quote from Ken Fisher?) regarding the shrinking of components with regard to its effect on tone, and he suggested to place them further apart as if they were larger components.
I don’t know if this is truly valid advice, but it kind works in my own fuzzy logic.

Re: Crimanly underrated
I saw Johnny Winter at the Fillmore in the mid-late ‘80’s… this day he was the most impressive guitar player I’ve ever seen—and I’ve seen many amazing players since.

Re: Baldwin Choke
I don’t know anything about the Baldwin choke… but, I would consider using a choke in a CLC Pi filter feeding the entire amp’s PS.

Re: Choke filter
Choke input PS reduce the voltage considerably. I have built a few amps with this kind of scheme, but they were odd circuits, not really resembling any classic amps. If you wanted it to operate at normal circuit voltages for a particular amp, you will need to design around a different power transfor...

Re: Which D-style pedal?
I’ve enjoyed the experience of buying/building the Azimuth pedal so much, I decided to buy another Aion kit. This time it’s the Solaris—a bit of a modified Fuzz Face clone.

Maybe next time I will try Aion’s Klone?

Re: New 183 build
As someone who enjoys the subtle differences to seemingly meaningless changes, I “get it”.
However, these nuanced tweaks tend to go unnoticed by the listener. Seems more OCD than science or art… then again, without a healthy dose of OCD, there might not be any truly great science or art.

Thanks for reassurance.
It sounds great at 18v… I haven’t even tried the 9v supply.

Re: Effect Pedal building
I just built the Azimuth.
Super kit.
Sounds amazing.
I’m thinking of building more of Akon’s full kit offerings… maybe a klone or fuzz?
I just realized I’ve been running it off the 18v supply on my board…
Should I be concerned about it blowing an op-amp or transistor?

Re: Are carbon films worth the trouble?
I have tried buying SoZo’s… I have systematically replaced them chasing something I didn’t really dig… Mostly with 6PS Orange Drops—I don’t like the 715’s. Only down side for the Orange drop to me is size. I am most dissatisfied with the SoZo silver mica caps. I tried to like them, but ceramic discs...

Re: Which D-style pedal?
I built the Aion Azimuth tonight.
Super nice kit. Elegant design, quality parts, easy to assemble using the instructions available online. It cost me $87.75 including shipping.
I’m very happy.

If it sounds that good, why do you want to change it?
