Re: For anyone wanting to set the PI Trim pot
Just a word of caution on these piher balance trimmers. If they sit for a long while not having been moved, they can develop an oxidation and non-conduction over time when you do move to a new setting. This just happened to me on an AB165 build where I had implemented that balance trim put for the P...

Psycho-fonics - Blind testing
I just went through a big batch of 12ax7's and while I do hear differences in volume and tone and I wonder. I used a VC build that works great and sounds great. Vol, T & B straight up and no trem. So here is what I wonder. If any of you have a basket of 12ax7 with varying price and age. Have you don...

Re: ID this tube?
Found this method - Measure dc voltage either side of the 100K plate resistor (pins 1 & 6) divide voltage drop by resistor value, measure dc voltage at the tube side of the 1.5K cathode resistor (pin 3 & 8) again divide voltage by resistor value. Connect a 4ohm dummy load to the speaker jack, apply ...

Re: Conductive boards again.
Perhaps you have seen what Psionic (Lyle) goes through with this issue. An alcohol lavage and meticulous removal of the residue that builds up on the wax boards can be quite effective. Then there is the under board that gets polluted. I have pulled that board out on my silver face champ and done the...

Re: Any magic in the Paraphase inverter?
Have fun with that. I just happened to fire up my 64 Tremolux for first time since the pandemic, good lord that Fender sparkle and chime and such a lovely trem. Some magic in the enclosed 2x10 cab as well.

Silverface Champ - new sounds
So this is a bit of an experiment, I am sure it's been done somewhere. It's a 70's Silverface Champ. I simply want to up the output a bit and give myself some tonal options and it needs to be reversible. 1. New WHS 8" w/ Ceramic magnet 2. Swap out the 100k plate R's for 220k 3. Up the 12ax7 CR to 3....
