Re: Trainwreck transformers specs
Hi Michal, I have told what I can tell on that it might be helpful. No, I do not sell or make transformers. In my opinion, you do not have to get those specs, you ask for, if you know how to make or design a transformer but you would be able to count backwards from information given and anyway you'd ...

Re: Trainwreck transformers specs
Hi, Well, I think I just did tell. But no I can't tell you how Ken did, only how you'd go about it if you had the same education. If it's an OT then consider the bandwidth you'd like to push through it and take a look at the transient response- you'd likely not like the transformer to duck when expo...

Re: ODS (Ceriatone) Cleans
Hi, Oh, you mean a Fender 5E7? By all means try that and it's a classic circuit. Hm, I don't think a Ceriatone Overtone would be that much more difficult though, it would just take longer time to wire and if you are very patient you'd do fine. The parts to look out for are more in the power section ...

Re: Trainwreck transformers specs
Hi, So which transfomer are you asking about? You first determine what voltage you'd like at the primary and how much that may deteriorate, the you'd ask what frequency spectrum you'd like to push through the OT. Indeed Ken did tell that the transformers noone will ever get hehe;) jaja, it's not lik...

Re: ODS (Ceriatone) Cleans
Hi, Excuse that I don't know what a 5E7 is or much anything at all about Dumbleamps and will not care to know either as at some point I'd like to meet the guy himself. No, I don't think I look rich enough to ever play a Dumble at a guitarshow Anyway, Nick at Ceriatone makes fine kits and is a nice g...

Re: Did K.F. use Mercury Mag?
Hi, Ken had many stories on what transformers he used, while none that I can relate. For the record I use Mercury Magnetics because they make fine transformers period. If you tell MM what you want I'd be certain they could make that, but like any good swiss bank they won't tell you what manufacturer...

Re: Proper etiquette addressing a forum ?
Hi, A polite and to the point question gets a read from me- that is if I am around. Much like a 'problem with filiament' is more likely read than 'I've got a problem' much because I don't know if I'd have answer to contribute with on just a general problem.......while specific problems might ring a ...

Re: crackling sound - Marshall Major
Hi, Check for oscillation. Make sure the probe can take the voltage at the points you measure. If you take an output from the phase inverter outputs and sound is fine without artifacts, you can have a faulty output transformer. I'd stress the point of being carefull with those amps as I had once jus...

Re: Output Transformer Frequency Response
Hi, You might want to go through your amp to see how bass is transfered.Excess treble can make bass seem lacking and there are usually a number of filters that can be adjusted for desired response. Also damping in the powersupply might not be sufficient and then bass won't be transfered very clearly...

Hi, ROHS and WEEE would not affect the tone or function of an amplifier but will affect the parts to use and the price of those parts aswell as possible selection of parts, but then if only this or that part can be used.........what do you do with the part? Hands on if you have a ready product and t...

Re: Current direction?
Hi, You might aswell stick with what makes it easiest to understand. It's anyway just a model. You'd sometimes see direction of current as defined from a higher potential to a lower, much because that's the way the pioneers of electricity saw it- makes more sense if you look at a lightning striking,...

Hi, Assuming that feedback is made negative........... What you have here is voltage feedback and it is done with a resistive divider. As long as the relation is kept the closed loop gain of the poweramp remains the same but the damping factor will change. That's damping as in the speakers reflectio...

Re: GRID LOAD RESISTORS
Hi, Thanks for the kind words. Some thoughts: In a good sounding plexi you'd often find the voltage for the first two twintriodes around 190V's, giving about 100V's at the anodes. This is on the lowside but there aren't that many stages cascaded so saturation will occour at the second stage( second ...

Re: GRID LOAD RESISTORS
Hi, Screengridresistors and gridresistors both combat oscillation and it works since there are inherent capacitances in the tube. Usually parasitic oscillations occour at high frequency, often so high that it won't be heard through the speaker but it may cause the amplifier to run at full output but...
