Re: Shure M68 mixer mods
Next you're going to have to build a nice tube compressor with her. "Daddy why does the meter run backwards? Is it s'posed to do that?" I was thinking to rob some of these little stepup transformers and build a tube mic pre. I think they are like 10:1 . A tube compressor might be beyond my s...

Re: Shure M68 mixer mods
What? Now I gotta start a new area for digital audio and Recording? pfft! Nice work Billy. Sounds pretty cool. If I get some time to play with recording gear I will follow your direction! Got any clips? Please please, NO Digital anything section, EVER. I put it in the garage talk, cuz thats what I ...

Shure M68 mixer mods
OK, this is way off my usual. My daughter is getting into recording and she asked me for some help and mics etc. I got her a cheapo Presonus usb mixer , but the gain is a bit low for a dynamic mic. So. Being a cheap father, I picked up a Shure M68 for $9. But boy was it ever noisey. Hiss, hum , etc....

Re: Tweed super to tweed deluxe conversion
What model super is it? What are the voltages now? What about just dropping the voltage with some Zener diodes on the center tap of the b+ secondary. So you can run 6v6's. 400v minus would be good. Cathode biased. Most supers are fixed biased. And a different tone circuit. You might be able to sub i...

Re: Cleaning up the member list?
I've been following this thread and have finally firmed up a position. I see no reason to delete a member unless she or he becomes a problem. And then only after repeat offenses. What is the harm in leaving a person on the member roll? Does it cost too much money? Is it too time consuming? I am a se...

Re: Looking for my first build, I'm a tweed guy
The tweed bassman had a 5/16 ply baffle, I think maybe luan, it is actually pretty good plywood. I have had good results from 1/4" and 3/8" high grade( not Home Depost) plywood in a tweed deluxe. I would use 3/8" on a bassman. Finger jointed pine is the way to good tone. Actually leaving the coverin...

807 Beer Beam Power Tube
Has anyone tried this tube type?
I think all my future builds will be using The 807 tube.

Re: Looking for my first build, I'm a tweed guy
Might check out the Mission 5e3 kit. Appears to have quality transformers.
For the most authentic tweed tone, I would opt for the carbon comp upgrade.

Re: Another Bassman Build - Tweed 5F6A : New Digs
Billyz, Yes the 47uf @ 250v ROE x 2 made in Germany killed the hiss. Dead silent with single coil pickups. I can't tell the amp is on with my ears. Steve. Roederstein, do you think it is the quality of the ROE, or the value ? I'll give them a try in my next build. Though , I have not had much troub...

Re: Looking for my first build, I'm a tweed guy
Point B: I really want to build this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VK3pE7TykDY I don't know squat. Can't read much on a schematic other than the ground symbol and a few things. Oh, and I like that new kinda attenuator the Fender EC Twinoluxe has on it so throwing it into the mix would be killer!...

Re: Another Bassman Build - Tweed 5F6A : New Digs
Look's great Mike good work. I'm interested how the Jupiter caps will sound. My last build used .022uf @ 630v 1% polystyrene after 50 hours of play time they smoothed out. I had concerted the Jupiter's. You may find this interesting I just recapped my early 1960 Fender Concert Amp it has a real Twe...
