Re: CF driver Va - Vk voltages in SSS consensus?
Dear Tony, Thank you for your reply! Yes, I also seem to forget more and more...... aging is the hardest part. I saw a schemo of the Sebago Texas Flood on the Sloclone forum and it showed a 12AT7 for the position, but no changes to the cathode resistors (220k) or the B+ (438V). Joey from Sloclone sa...

Re: CF driver Va - Vk voltages in SSS consensus?
Hi Tony, many thanks for your most valuable insights! Can you elaborate what changes you made for AT or BH7 use? Alsodid you ever consider to lower the B+ for the CF? How did the AX type tubes fail? Did they simply stop working or did you experience weak performance or did it take some other compone...

Re: CF driver Va - Vk voltages in SSS consensus?
@rootz:
indeed, I measure 483V at idle from anode to cathode.
Scary!!!!
I like Martins suggestion, but that would mean to totally rebuild the bias supply. And still makes me wonder what Dumble thought and what some long time gigging users of 002 clones experienced.

928E15C9-FD66-4602-B1CB-C69922A8066F.jpeg Hi Martin, thank you, I saw your suggestion, but am hesitant to do such a deep modification to the amp. Given that the original 002 is rocking along nicely after all those years on stage. Was Dumble wrong? Is there a piece of info missing in the japanese sc...

CF driver Va - Vk voltages in SSS consensus?
Dear all, I revisited my SSS 002 clone again (actually my take on 002 with a different PCB layout, sans Reverb but with integrated Dumbleator look here: https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=24607 ) and checked the voltages. The japanese schematic shows voltages that are all 15% off, since...

Hi Miles,
can you elaborate a bit more why the LCR does not sound good? Did you try the Ox Box in comparison? Most people say thta the Boss sounds better than the Ox.
Thanks,
Electron

Re: Odd problem with amp (OT gives funny readings)
Again many thanks to all the kind help and suggestions! I have the amp up and running. The new PT works as it should and the amp sounds fine. Measruing the power output of the amp, I get around 72Ws which still puzzles me a bit. The B+ is 450V on the plates, bias is about 28mA per 5881. With 4 5881 ...

Re: Odd problem with amp (OT gives funny readings)
I stand corrected, the 1k7 primary is an impedance not DC resistance. The Hammond Mfg. site states a DC resistance for a Marshall 100W replacement transformer of about 16Ohms between outside (plate) and CT. So my DC resitance measurement is actually not too far off. https://www.hammfg.com/fil...

Re: Odd problem with amp (OT gives funny readings)
Thanks for the fast replies! So I unsoldered the primaries and now get 15 Ohms and 17 Ohms from the two outer wires (plate wires red and brown, i.e. A and B according to Phils pictogram) to the CT (white ) and 30 Ohms between the two outer wires (measured between A and B). Seems there is a short in ...

Odd problem with amp (OT gives funny readings)
Dear All, I have this DIY amp here that blew the mains fuse after extended use. No signs of any burned parts. Amp simply blew the mains fuse when the PT broke down. Amp is a mix of Fender preamp and Marshall preamp with a SLO type Outupt section. The PT was toast, installing a new PT was the initial...

Re: Master volume mod
Hi SteveM,
sounds like a nice mod to a JTM45. What type of DPDT switch rating would one need. If the switch is after the resistor voltages should be lower than B+ of the output tubes and maybe acceptable for a 250VAC switch?

Re: Amplified Nation 150w SSS
Great looking and sounding amp Taylor! I really like Mike Hermans demos, he is one of the best IMHO. Do you know what speaker was used for the demo? Would you mind to share some info on the SSS005 preamp. So no inductor for the Filters. Why did you use coiled wire in the preamp? How is the Reverb Si...

Re: My take on the SSS Updated: the beast is alive VIDEO(S) NEW
Hey Mike, thanks for your kind words. I am quite happy how this project worked out. The SSS derivative without the Reverb but with an integrated Dumbleator is really something special. If I would do it again, I would consider mixing the FX-Loop using a CF mixer stage as used in the real SSS for the ...

So I ordered some suede and send it to a cabinet maker and he did a great job IMHO. I still need to install the Alu trimmings and everything once the headshell is here.
