Re: 74 Super Lead radio interference

What I did in my amp was use RG174 shielded cable from input jacks. Took input resistors off the board and soldered them directly to the tube socket. Capacitance just looks like you added a few inches of guitar cable, negligible effect on tone, but no more pesky RF problems, not even any cell phone ...

Re: Need good uses for a couple of Super reverb output trannys.

If they're originals, I have a '65 that could use an original and I'd be willing to pay a fair price.

Re: Full Frequency Tube Amp?

I wouldn't "gut" a 4x12, but for full range reproduction, you can add some HF horns. Here's a cheap Peavey horn: http://www.directproaudio.com/product.cfm?directid=64164 Now you can get much better horns out there for hi-fi, but this is from 6khz (which is around where a guitar speaker tops off) to ...

Outer foil orientation

Assuming you can find, or if your caps have the outer foil orientation marked, where do you connect the outer foil to? On a Marshall plexi-style amp, for example, on the tone stack, would the outer foil lead to ground? Cathode bypass cap, outer foil to ground? Coupling caps?

Re: Best High gain Mod/ Master Volume for a JMP 50 MK II

Regarding the "tightness" of the amp, that could be due to the negative feedback. I like 47k/8 ohm myself. Tight but lively.

Re: Any Home Made Line Conditioners?

I know I'm dragging up an old subject, but I was curious about this again, found this post, and how do you not blow a fuse plugging a choke into the wall? Seems it would short out. Excuse my ignorance if this is a silly question. Because otherwise, this is a much cheaper alternative to a Furman.

Re: Xpress 500p Treble Tone Cap

I've tried a few different variations in my plexi clone and I think I've found what I like. Tone stack treble: Haven't found a good ceramic, but silver mica is a bit warmer and smoother than styrene here. Not as clinical. Tone stack mid and bass: CDE DME 1KV sounds REALLY GOOD here. Clear, unclutter...

Re: '65 Fender Super Reverb

Try a little shot of tuner cleaner in the pots. I think a lot of people like the stuff from Caig. You can get replacement pots but some say that it affects the value of the amp. If anything has to be replaced, save the originals. I'd say replace the filter caps, or at least inspect them. If they loo...

Re: bloom into feedback....

When I was younger, I had modded an old Fender Pro Reverb to "Boogie" specs via a Torres kit. Although I basically destroyed the value of that amp, it had the most incredible sustain and effortless feedback. All I had to do was rub the string against the fret, and this smooth feedback (not high end ...

Re: Best Fender Tweaks

I've got a '65 super reverb. One thing I did about 10 years ago in a quest to get tighter bass was replace the 70 uf caps with 100uf caps. Turned the amp sterile. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time. When I recapped, I went back down to 70 uf on the mains and I also reduced the first 22uf ...

Re: "Wrecking" a JTM45

I'm incredibly curious about this. I built a Ceriatone plexi 50 kit with a PPIMV and while it's got a great crunch, i've been trying to squeeze some extra sustain out of it. I've reduced the NFB, I've reduced filtering to increase touch sensitivity, but it seems relegated to being a "rhythm" crunch ...

Re: Xpress 500p Treble Tone Cap

I used a polystyrene 250pf cap in my Super Reverb for a while. Changed it out to ceramic after finding that ceramic sounded smoother with an overdrive pedal in front... I'm about to put the polystyrene in my Ceriatone 1987 clone. I'm thinking that the poly is maybe too accurate when you have an OD p...

Re: $60 caps?

I know a lot of people claim to "hear" a difference. But if you take the same guitar, play it, then get up, desolder the old cap, solder in the new cap, then test it, you are relying on memory, and furthermore, you might be sitting or standing further away from the amp or at a different angle, all c...

Shield inside of head cabinet?

I just built a Ceriatone plexi50 with a PPIMV. Thing sounds amazing. But when I turn up the presence and treble, I get this high whistling noise. I've got the amp sitting on top of my cab, but not in the head cab. It's sitting tubes and transformers up. So I flip the thing upside down careful not to...

Re: Fender SuperReverb Torres Mod

I modded a pro reverb in the early 90s before I knew what the amp was worth. I picked up the amp for $160 and I put in the "boogie" kit which removed the tremolo stage and added a switchable gain stage. The one cool thing I liked was the "dual stage master" in other words, a PPIMV. The mod did what ...
