Re: SLO ef80 to 40 watt with loop
Do you want a transparent loop or a loop that plays a part in the sound of the amp like the SLO 100? Thats a great question. I dont care too much as long as it sounds good. I did think about getting the proper iron and doing it as a slo50 clone but decided to save some time and money by doing robs,...

SLO ef80 to 40 watt with loop
Hello amazingly knowledgeable amp friends! Around 6 months ago i built the Slo mikro ef80 amp from Robs site. I almost immediately regretted choosing that version, even before i finished it. I could have built the 40watt for almost the same price but i finished it anyway. I tried just about everythi...

Re: Tweed overdrive special - some guidance needed
I think the clean on your TOS sounds beautiful! Super nice job! I also like the OD channel. You were getting some cool "vowel" almost "notched wah" tones in there at times with your OD. :D Enjoyed your playing also! Sounded great to me. I'd be very happy with a tone like that and view the amp as a ...

Re: Tweed overdrive special - some guidance needed
Here is a sound clip. My original intention was to make a video without any effects in the loop and just the raw amp tone but i kept losing files so this will do for now. I have way too much reverb on but it still sounds pretty damn good. https://youtu.be/FEaiZMRcfdU Also im posting that pdf i promi...

Re: Tweed overdrive special - some guidance needed
Ok i added the 500R 10watt and now my voltages are way better and after fixing the fx loop jack everything sounds great. Im working on a video/sound clips now and once i know everything is the way i want it ill post a multipage pdf including bookmarks with all the information on relays/vvrs ect that...

Re: Tweed overdrive special - some guidance needed
Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it, Sorry I am just responding I was attempting to make a video of my recorded sounds to share but kept losing the files somehow but ill post it on here soon. Also its music festival season so ive been enjoying that. I have ordered a variety of I0 watt wir...

Re: Tweed overdrive special - some guidance needed
Strange thing is that the MV had no effect on the voltage this time. Your checking the bias under static conditions. The mv should have zero effect. I was checking plate voltage of the output tubes. The first time it really did change a small amount depending on where the MV was set but the last ti...

Re: Tweed overdrive special - some guidance needed
Sorry im replying so much lol
I added the 250R in series with the 400R and tested again. My B plus was raised slightly so my plates are at exactly the same voltage but id have to assume my bias is now not ideal. Strange thing is that the MV had no effect on the voltage this time.

Re: Tweed overdrive special - some guidance needed
Now that im home i see that even those crappy ebay resisters are only 5w. I have two 470ohm 5watts. The only other 10w i have are 250ohm and 10k. I thought about splitting them so i could use the 470w 5 watts but im assuming id then need two 250 ohm which i only have one of. I also am assuming id ha...

Re: Tweed overdrive special - some guidance needed
I measured again and did get a drop in voltage with the MV change. All the way up i get 422v and down im at 444v, its late and i may have mixed that up. Hey! We're getting somewhere! My guess is you'll want to remeasure voltages with the MV all the way up (I only build stuff that's not so loud that...

Re: Tweed overdrive special - some guidance needed
. Also my 5881 Tung Sols are getting hotter than any tube i have ever seen. Like burn you hot. They are not red plating or arcing though. I how i'm reading, it is too much current.. and too much power dissipation.. first reduce bias, make cathode resistor around 500 ohms to fix that, and read again...

Re: Tweed overdrive special - some guidance needed
remove all the wiring and place exactly like dumble did, this is making huge difference Thanks, ill get right on that right after i spend a months salary on Nos carbon comp resisters lol 🤥😵💫🫡 you can use cheap carbon film, koa speer also, but i was reffering to wires only, lead dress, this is free...

Re: Tweed overdrive special - some guidance needed
At first glance, your voltages are a little high. 5881 doesn't really want over 400 on the plates (you'll notice the schematic has them at 423-39 (cathode voltage)= 384V). I'm guessing the PT might get hotter with the 5Y3 because the SS plug doesn't use the 5V tap, and they 5Y3 does. That makes sin...
