Re: A SSS Build

Here's what the build looked like a few days ago. Heater wires done, working on power tubes. Mounted 12v transformer for relay power. Whe I went to mount the 12v rectifier board found it wouldn't fit, caps were too big and interfered with PT. Ordered some physically skinnier caps, now waiting for th...

Re: 2nd Gen Build

Congrats on keeping the ever elusive magic smoke contained!

Great looking build! I like you're color choice for the heater wires, you'll see why soon...

Have you used the Jupiter caps before? If so what do you think of them?

Re: A SSS Build

Hi Glenn, I'm excited to watch this build! I wanted to also drop you a note to thank you, because seeing your post reminded me I forgot to order those doohickeys for my two Erwin chassis. -Dan My pleasure Dan, you're welcome. Thank you, it's feedback like this that makes posting feel worthwhile! He...

A SSS Build

Hello. My name is Glenn and I'm an Ampaholic.... :D After several months of saving my pennies-which was actually just stalling and trying to talk myself out of it-I ordered a SSS Chassis from Erwin. Told myself I was just getting one before he sold out of them, I'm going to put it away for a future ...

Re: ODS 102 with 2x KT88s and built-in Dumbleator

Not sure if I'd ever need to switch it in or out mid-song, great question to consider if it's worth putting on a pedal. The relay was used primarily to keep the wire runs shorter. My goal was to keep it as close to 102 as possible when the Dumbleator was not in use. The possibility of putting it on ...

Re: ODS 102 with 2x KT88s and built-in Dumbleator

bcmatt I did a very similar build, if I were to put together a schematic of my build it would look nearly identical to what you pieced together. On mine the switch to select or bypass the Dumbleator is actually a relay. I did this mainly to avoid long signal wire runs to a switch. Where I was able t...

Re: My take on a 2nd Gen ODS

Something I noticed and am curious about. The green wire goes to the 220k OD entrance, then to a 33k then to OD1 input. The junction of the resistors is tied to ground on the layout. Is this really supposed to be grounded? With it grounded the signal is only passed by the 1m2 resistor.

Re: My take on a 2nd Gen ODS

Typically when I check voltages I have a dummy load connected to the output. Recently I had a speaker connected and when I checked plate voltages on the preamp I noticed a POP sound as I touched the probe to the point I was checking. Maybe you can use this as a method to narrow down where the signal...

Re: My take on a 2nd Gen ODS

I'm not real familiar with 2nd Gen. Is it supposed to have an OD entrance trim pot? Unable to see under the board but something seems off to me in that area. Where does the green wire land?

Re: My take on a 2nd Gen ODS

Thanks!

Looks like V1 pin 5 (heater) has no solder. Not sure this is enough to cause no signal. Still looking....

Re: ODS Inspired Build; #102 Values with Buffered FX Loop

Quick update. Changed power supply resistors to Dumbleator tube and voltages fell into line. This helped the hum but changing the tube out helped a bunch more. Turns out I had a large plate in it, a lower gain tube really helped. I think putting it in a cabinet will help a lot more. The Dumbleator i...

Re: My take on a 2nd Gen ODS

What's the value of the resistor on your input jack? Check it with a meter. Best I can tell (small phone screen) color code is Brn-Blk-Red.
