AM = Allyn Meyers?
However, it does not look like an Allyn build to me, tube shields are a give away. Post a gut shot Jim. That will help a ton.
The PT looks like a Heyboer. Can't see the OT, so hard to say if it has a Dynaco style OT (A470).

Re: Five Watt World: Short History of Trainwreck
Watched this and was not impressed. Some good info, but the sound quality of the clips was awful.

Re: Unmarked TRAINWRECK Express
That doesn't look anything like Allyn's work to my eyes. This looks like someone's home-brew version of an Express with tube recto and looks like maybe HV selector switch for high and low voltage PT secondaries. Can't tell from the photos what exactly is going on, but chalk it up to being a home-bre...

Re: Express volume pot NOISE
Doesn't matter what brand of potentiometer it is, they can still be bad. In fact, I ordered a bunch of PEC pots a few years ago in different values, and the whole bag of 50 1M Pots were bad. Every single one was open. All the other values worked fine, these not so much. Got a refund, but still need ...

Re: Monitor speakers?
Those PMC monitors are really sweet! Especially if you have a big, FAT, wallet full of disposable cash. For most of us, they're out of reach. Indeed  which takes me back to my original reply about headphones. My Sennheiser HD650's sound remarkably similar to my Mastering engineers big PMC'...

Hey Mark,
Check out KW Cabs http://www.kwcabs.com/index.shtml
When I got divorced and no longer had a garage shop, I used Kurt to make my cabs. He does fantastic work and is pretty reasonable on pricing. Let him know I sent you if you contact him.

Re: Monitor speakers?
How much do they go for in Australia?
I use mine everyday as they are part of my workstation in my home office. They sound incredible for such a small package. Used them last night for mastering an old recording I did in 2014. I don't think you can go wrong unless the price is crazy in your market.

Re: Monitor speakers?
Hey Mark,
I have been using a set of the Eris 8s for about a year now and they are pretty damn awesome for the $$$. I got my set for about $300, which you'd be hard pressed to find better monitors at twice that price.

Re: Mystery Amp
Bit of a rats nest for sure. That ground bus looks pretty shaky as well as the other items that have been pointed out. Phil_S, you mentioned that the power supply wouldn’t have much sag. Let’s remember the S.E. amps (class A) don’t sag. To be clear, biased to true class A would not sag at all, biase...

Re: Obscure Trainwreck derived circuits?
I posted about this little one-off build I did back in 2009, where I gutted a Pro Jr that was EOL and concocted a custom circuit for it. I never drew up a schematic, but wouldn't be too hard to replicate. It's basically a Liverpool/Express preamp (more Liverpool value wise), 5E3/AA 964 concertina PI...

Re: Dirty Little Monster
Thanks guys! Mark, yours is very nice as well. Beautifully executed build and sweet tones. The clip I posted isn't the greatest. The player has some solid chops, but had never played a TW style amp before, so we had to educate him on working it from the guitar controls. That amp fest had a number of...

Re: Dirty Little Monster
Yeah Mark, great looking build!! I guess you could call it my signature amp, the Absinthe, which is parallel single ended Wreck inspired build. Octal outputs, so you can run most any popular octal, or mix and match octals. Here's an old clip from an amp fest in Portland area about a decade ago: http...

Re: Fane Medusa speakers
From what I understand, they are no longer making the Medusa line. It’s a very long story that would bore most folks, so let’s just say Fane decided to move in a different direction.
