Re: JJ E34L (brand new) emitting a white light - has anyone seen this before?

With just one image to go off it looks to be arcing. You could forward the photo to the supplier but only as preface to returning it anyway. It's probably part of a matched set as well, yes? In such a case, it might be necessary to return the whole set. Best to contact the supplier and take it up w...

JJ E34L (brand new) emitting a white light - has anyone seen this before?

Has anyone seen this before? The amp is a JCM2000 DSL100, tubes are biased to factory recommendations, nothing is redplating, but there is a distinct white light coming from one of the brand new JJ E34L’s. I’ve never seen this before. If it’s nothing I should worry about, I’ll leave it be. Checking ...

Re: Input requested: Matchless Chieftain build (with original and modified schematics included)

One question I have is around pot wiring. I've always operated under the assumption that on a schematic, the top (looking left to right) most connection point is pin 1 and bottom is pin 3. Is this the case, or no? Not always. IMHO after 40 years of reading schematics it basically depends on who dre...

Re: Input requested: Matchless Chieftain build (with original and modified schematics included)

I've got the amp built, everything fires up and it makes nice guitar sounds. There are a couple gremlins I'm currently hunting down (motorboating when the treble pot is maxed, less overall gain than I was expecting). One question I have is around pot wiring. I've always operated under the assumption...

Input requested: Matchless Chieftain build (with original and modified schematics included)

I'm posting this in a couple different spots to maximize the expertise of the forums I frequent, so here we go! Howdy everyone, I have a gutted Traynor YBA-1 that I've started building a Chieftain circuit into. I've been going by the Chieftain Reverb schematic posted on here, but I've made some twea...

New power transformer in Fender Bassman AB165 buzzing

Hi there, A little while ago, I received a Bassman AB165 that had been modified in the power section (different power transformer, some super sketchy wiring). I pulled the old transformer out and rewired everything that was messed with, and I just dropped a new power transformer into it (Hammond 290...

Re: How would you lay this tone control out on a turret board?

Here's how I would do it on a terminal strip. It's really easy and the shortest possible distance between components if your volume and tone controls are the right distance from each other on your new build. If you must do it on a turret board, a center turret would make the layout easier/cleaner/s...

Re: How would you lay this tone control out on a turret board?

Just trying to help. My drawing fits perfectly on a Hoffman board (3.125" wide) and only takes up three columns. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your help (and everyone else's)! I just wanted to provide context as to why I'm posting a Gretsch schematic when I have a Harmony in my basement. :...

Re: How would you lay this tone control out on a turret board?

I highly recommend using the correct schematic. The Harmony and the Gretsch schematics are different. Using the Gretsch schematic is gonna bite you in the ass sooner or later. The problem is that finding a Valco that matches its corresponding schematic is next to impossible (whether that's from und...

Re: How would you lay this tone control out on a turret board?

If you put all of that circuitry directly between the, I'm guessing volume, and tone control, you need three extra lugs. So, a 4 lug terminal strip if you want to isolate ground. How many turrets is that, how much harder is it, and how much wire are you adding? I would skip the turrets and keep the...

Re: How would you lay this tone control out on a turret board?

From what I can tell, this is how it would be mapped out on a Hoffman board (DIYLC):

How would you lay this tone control out on a turret board?

I've got an old Harmony 430 (Valco-built, very similar circuit to the Gretsch 6162 - as similar as these amps could get), that I'm interested in tracing the circuit, ultimately to possibly clone it in a non-rat's nest way. The schematics I've found for both the 430 and 6162 have the tone circuit sho...

Re: UPDATE: Finished my Express build last night > it's working!

If anyone is interested, I recorded a demo the other day with my completed Express build. Rhythm guitar side (left) are a Bogner Ecstasy Classic and the lead side (right) is the Express.

Yeah, nevermind. Back to the gear page to ask 12 year olds? He should be remanded to useNet Alt Guitar Amps to crawl with the bottom feeders. I'll spread the word over on Hoffman's board too. Shame on you prairie or Duncan or whoever you are. Just the most helpful. Thanks again, guys. Super gratefu...

Nah you guys have been super helpful. Both with this topic and the last build I did. Really appreciate the welcoming vibes. ✌🏻
