Re: ODS #183 PCB build.

Hi Digit, hi Tony, hi everyone, who can i contact to order a 300K bass pot? Alternatively, where can I find the explanation on how to interrupt the trace of a 500K potentiometer to make a 300k one? Thanks for your answers, I am learning a lot by reading the pages of Ampgarage. Franco Got mine at Mo...

Re: ODS #183 PCB build.

Later there was some comments made that perhaps the reason for the different wiring on the R/J switch was due to that the earlier 4 th generation amps had a on/off/on switch which provides a boost feature in the off position where as some of the later serial number amps had an on/on switch. Looks t...

Re: ODS #183 PCB build.

Hi ijedouglas, hi digi2t, hi everyone, Checking the layout of AA Electronics # 183 I noticed a difference with the layout of Tony Albany owned by TAG, the connections of the Rock / Jazz switch are different, the right contact in the Jazz position in Tony's Layout is connected to the left center of ...

Re: ODS #183 PCB build.

My experience so far with tubes; I have a pair of '60's NOS RCA ribbed long black plates in V1 and V2, a JJ ECC803S in the PI, and EHX 6CA7's in the power section. It shines in all configurations. For the second unit, I have a JJ ECC83 in V1, a JJ EC803 in V2, a Sovtek 12AX7LPS in the PI, and the EH...

Re: ODS #183 PCB build.

In Europe "earth" or "mass" means what we call ground. In building mine, my biggest worry in the regard to ground was the anodized chassis. I don't trust the anodizing to be conductive enough, so I took the time to buff off the coating at all ground points, as well as all points where pot bodies, tr...

Re: ODS #183 PCB build.

Hello everybody, I suspect that, in addition to the error reported by digi2t -"Speaking of caps, pay close attention to the correction I made on C23 in the 12v section. In the AA layout, the + of the cap is connected to the wrong side of the diode."- there is another problem with the diodes. If we ...

Re: ODS #183 PCB build.

That's interesting. I saw the connection to the 4 ohm tap as well, but just connected to the 8 ohm tap out of habit of seeing it done this way on the Traynors. From what I've read, it doesn't really make much difference which tap the feedback is connected to. Mine seems to be working quite well conn...

Re: ODS #183 PCB build.

Well, tonight I wound it up again, and.... no ticking! Must be something that was running this morning getting picked up by the guitar pups. Scratch that off the list. Here's what I have so far. The 12v transfo is still outstanding, so I have a 12vac wall wart standing in for testing. https://i.imgu...

Do you have any pics of your build? I would love to see how it came together.
Will post some tonight, along with other info I've gathered.

Re: ODS #183 PCB build.

Yeah, I thought about that as well, but turning the lights off didn't alleviate it. I even placed a 2mm aluminium sheet shield over the enclosure as well, but I really believe that it's the guitar pups that are picking it up. If I turn down/off the guitar volume, it disappears. If I have nothing plu...

Re: ODS #183 PCB build.

Thanks! Wouldn't of happened without all the info and fine support of this forum.

The router angle is definitely a possibility. I have one in the basement, where the shop is, and a big ass range extender upstairs. May well be the issue. I'll check it out tonight. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: ODS #183 PCB build.

Alrighty-O, first unit is built. Went through all the tuning info regarding the trimmers and such, and it sounds ab-so-lute-ly GLORIOUS! Having cheated death in 2018, I'm grateful to the surgeon for bringing me back to experience this tone. I can die again, happy now. Just one question regardi...

Re: Hammond 373 for a #183 build?

First off, a mighty thank you for this forum and all that chip in with the valuable info. 373FX was pretty much on the money. I don't have them handy, but I'll post the voltages I have on the first build shortly. Not too far off what's been published for a #183 build. Actually, pretty close. Thanks ...

Re: Hammond 373 for a #183 build?

Greatly appreciate the replies. I have a 373FX and 1750U on the way. I'm actually building two units at the same time, the other with Edcor iron. The Edcor OT is actually going to be a 2.2K unit. It'll be interesting to do a side by side comparison when they're both done. I already have a build thre...

Re: Hammond 373 for a #183 build?

Hello -- What Guy said. Also perhaps consider https://www.hammfg.com/files/parts/pdf/291ZEZ.pdf . Z frame, if that matters. Maybe a somewhat special order, so fails your overnight shipping goal. Best .. Ian Thanks for that link Ian. Unfortunately, I'm using the PCB from AAE, and the rectification s...
